Clowe signs for 4 years for 3.5 a year… I think we’re officially out of cap space at this point. I have no idea how he’s going to pull this off.

Other than Moen, are there people DW should be looking at that would be our new “captain of the pk” now that grier is gone. Is there any way to improve at this position or should we expect Mitchell and McGinn to head our PK. Stephane Veilleux might be a possibility (McClellen coached him in Houston) but that doesn’t like much of an upgrade to Moen (though he might be cheaper).

Tom: Beauchemin would be a great addition and not out of the realm of possibility…although I keep hearing he could be replacing Ohlund in Vancouver. He would be a great #2 guy who plays the kill and can go toe to toe with most anyone. I’m guessing he gets $18-20M over 5 years, a little less than Komisarek and a little more than Spacek got from Montreal.

I agree that DW still has tricks up his sleeve… I kinda think everything is coming down to Gustavsson making his choice. I think is he comes here they MIGHT consider trading Nabby…

But I agree that Heatly is NOT COMING TO SJ…I don’t think DW wants him, kinda seems like what we already have, all skill not much grit.

I still think Hartnell would be a great addition.

Any chances we might be able to take a stab at Beauchemin??

Ivan- I’m not sure it’s even possible for Grier, Moen, and Lemieux to be the only ones affected. We’re currently sitting at 5.3 M in cap space, and need to sign/call up six forwards (with one of those being a healthy scratch) as well as a backup goaltender.

This is without Clowe signed, mind you. Pollak reported at InsideBayArea.com that they had come to terms- is it safe to assume he’s somewhere in the 3 M per range? Regardless, that’s a pretty tight salary fit even if Clowe wasn’t in the picture.

I’m kind of scared to see what happens.

Ottawa just paid $4M bonus to Heatley and the word is that because of that, he’s price has gone up, which is understandable.

With Chicago signing of Hossa, I think we may do a move to respond to this. But what do we know. None of us saw Boyle’s signing, or Thornton or Blake.

DW can’t talk about major changes and Grier, Moen and Lemiuex being the only ones affected.

I can’t imagine the Sharks giving up three players and a 1st round pick for Heatley. Ottawa is totally bent over a barrel here and IF the Sharks are interested, then the price just went waaay down. Given all the bad press and Heatley’s tag of being a problem child, I don’t see him coming to San Jose as part of a makeover – and especially not at that price.

I’m still thinking we may see a trade for Heatley. Not sure if you saw, but both Dreger and McKenzie reported yesterday on TSN (first on Twitter than in an article) that Heatley didn’t make his mind up yesterday about Oilers because he was under the impression on the draft day that it was either NYR or the Sharks that he’ll go to, and baam – Sens accept Oilers offer.

Michalek + Cheechoo + Prospect *not Petrecki* + 1st round pick in 2010 for Heatley – I’d take it either as Sharks or Sens GM.
