Good episode as always dudes. It would be great to add a scorer, but I agree with all your points – unless DW pulls off a minor miracle, I just don’t see it. I’m less optimistic about the team than you guys. I think the Oilers are going to take the division and the Sharks are in for a short playoff appearance. They are a very beatable postseason matchup. Last year the Sharks had 2 reliable scoring lines plus a great power play. Not this year.

    • James says:

Nah … I think a break is just what they needed. Of course the Canucks are having a bad season, but the Sharks looked great. I agree the Sharks could use a winger to play with the Joes, but that can be Donskoi (as FtF argues). Plus, that player would be very costly. My hope is the Sharks add someone to replace Haley. i.e. Swap Haley + cash for a good two-way fourth liner UFA-to-be who’s a straight-up rental player.

  2. Havoc says:

Why is Haley centering when you’ve got Hertl healthy? If Hertl’s goin to play winger, put him on the top line. The only reason not to is if he’s centering the 3rd line.

    • Teddy says:

Agree 100%. Also confused as everyone regarding not playing Dell. Kind of disagree w/ the Dudes – I think some trade deadline action for the forwards is necessary if they want to make a run. 2 guys – one for the top-6 and one for the bottom-6. Of course, that’s easy for me to say, I’m not the one dealing as crazy GM’s spent top tier draft picks for mediocre players. Will be PISSED if the Sharks get a goalie, but no forwards. That would make no sense whatsoever.

  3. James says:

Angry over the Hansen deal. I originally heard it as “a 4th for Hansen, which is a 1st if the Sharks win the cup.” I thought, OK, a vet with injury problems that will help on the PK and maybe score a few goals. Doesn’t solve our scoring winger problem or our better-than-Haley 4th liner energy problem, but a good move. We’re not winning the cup, so who cares about the trendy conditional nature of the deal. When I heard Goldobin was part of it, I was not pleased. Gave up on him too early. I love Kurz’s “he was barely a first-round pick” argument. What? You get drafted in the first round, you’re a first rounder. Period. Ultimately, this does not make Sharks scouting look good.

    • Taylor says:

I’m not surprised Goldobin was trade bait after he failed his most recent call-up. I am surprised DW thinks Hansen is worth rolling the dice on due to his injury record. He’s missed 25% of games the last 5 years and over half of this season with a knee injury. If he stays healthy and pushes Haley out of the lineup, he can be a solid contributer if not a difference-maker. I see this as a wake-up call to the young guys on the roster: Lebanc, Meier, Hamilton, Mueller, etc. I’m ok with the deal, assuming this pushes Haley out of the lineup and Goldobin doesn’t put on muscle and become a 20-goal scorer for the Canucks.

      • Teddy says:

The real question is, does Wilson have a problem making 1st round picks. Petricki. Seto. Goldobin. Mueeler too, apparently. As for the trade itself, the conditional first-round nature of it is stupid, but a 4th and a struggling prospect for an NHL top-6 player who can kill penalties is a good move if he stays healthy. (Every time I hear “knee” I think of Hertl and Torres).

        • James says:

Who says Goldobin is a bust? He’s only 21. If he’s out of the league in a year, sure, good move DW. He he scores 15 goals for the ‘Nucks next year, what will we be saying then?

          • Heti says:

I agree with you. Goldobin has only played 11 games in the NHL. In his recent Sharks stint, he only played 2 games. Give me a break. Who says he can’t be a good player? He scored almost a point per game for the Barracuda. I know that’s not the same as the NHL, but it’s impressive.

        • Sharks Fan says:

What gives you the impression Hansen will be a top 6 forward? I see this as Goldobin and a 4th for a good 3rd line winger. Overpaid.

          • James says:

Agree, he will get a look on the top line, but end up on the 3rd. Must say, that makes a strong lineup, especially if Haley is out. DW’s solution to his forwards problem was a utility player. Conservative, but makes sense. Now the stars must step up.

            Labanc – Thornton – Pavelski
            Marleau – Couture – Boedker
            Hansen – Hertl – Ward
            Haley/Meier/Sorensen – Tierney – Karlsson

    • Matty says:

Would have much rather had Vanek. Esepcially with Wings paying half!
