Here’s the link to the ESPN.com chat where I got two questions in about the Sharks and free agency. If you want to take an NHL insider at his word, it appears LeBrun’s source is saying Doug Wilson will deal with his opening in net tomorrow and perhaps hold off on acquiring another d-man. I’m sticking to my original prediction that the Sharks will sign former nemesis and playoff performer, Marty Turco, to a contract tomorrow. Turco wants to win and this will be his last hurrah, and there’s no better situation than the one in San Jose. Get ready to start chanting TURCO, TURCO…but with love…

I also asked a question about the Sharks resigning Manny Malhotra or perhaps turning to Mike Modano – we all know how much Doug Wilson loves a veteran role model and Modano would fit the Roenick/Lemieux/Blake mold. His response was the Sharks love, love, love Malhotra both on and off the ice.

So, there you go. More tomorrow. Let the fireworks begin.

Hey all. I’ve been thinking about Kurtis Foster in teal. I wanted to know what people think.

Apparently he’s 2nd In scoring Amoung UFA D-men. Only behind Gonchar. He is 6′-5″ and only 28 yes old. His cap hit lasy year was only 600k and he’s definetly due a raise after 40+ pts with Tampa.

I wonder with the signing that DW has already done he simply won’t be in the bidding for guys like Hamhuis, Martin, etc… I seem to be hearing little chatter about Foster and wonder if DW could get him for around 2m? That type of contract can always be accommodated.

Foster would be a clear 2nd pairing D and I could see him match well with Vlassic giving us another offensive threat. And yet at 6′-5″ still be a physical presence. I like his age and think it could be a fit…

    Anyways just roster-bating…

Wonder what his thoughts are on playing with the guy that caused him to only make 600k last year…

I really don’t get the Turco rumors, i can’t see us signing him.

DW has implied in interviews that he’s looking for a different style of goaltender from Nabokov, a bigger shot blocking type goaltender with a much cheaper price tag that will be able to more easily handle stuff like screens, deflections, and other situations where the goaltender has no hope of reacting to the shot.

Turco is the polar opposite of that type of goaltender. Turco is smaller than Nabby, and even more reliant on his quick reflexes and his ability to see the puck than even Nabokov imo. I don’t think he would come very cheap either. Oh, and San Jose hates Turco, so there’s another reason lol.

I just can’t imagine the Sharks signing Turco after letting Nabby walk, it just wouldn’t make sense. Then again Wallins contract didn’t make sense either so who knows.

Hopefully we sign Dan Ellis tomorrow for 2 years at 2 million per year. *crosses fingers*

Pierre LeBrun sat in front of me at the draft. Let’s just say if you are trying to shoot video, you might get the impression that LeBrun has an enormous head.

  4. Patrick says:

Gonchar to Ottawa at 3 years, $5.5M (didn’t want him anyway).
Sounds like Paul Martin to Pittsburgh (that hurts).

  5. nick says:

    Nittymaki, 2 yrs 4 mill.

  6. Jeremy says:

Not enough love, love, love for Manny.

  7. WingsFanInSharkLand says:

Over/under on remaining Blackhawk players present on opening day when they raise their Stanley Cup banner: 9. If it gets below that, they should be required to have a private ceremony.

The Malhotra exit really surprises me. I thought for sure San Jose would bring him back.

  8. MJ says:

““We’re also exploring trade discussions and that’s probably where we’re going to spend most of our attention the next little while,” – Doug Wilson

    Kaberle?
