Sharks hockey is over you say? Yes, it is. Sorry, I can’t change that – but you can get a glimpse at a potential Young Dude on the NHL Network tonight when Sharks goalie prospect J.P. Anderson is in between the pipes for the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in the Finals of the Memorial Cup.

What is the Memorial Cup, you say? How dare you! It is only the Final Four of Canadian Major Junior Hockey! What the BCS should be NCAA Football. It pits the playoff winners of the three Canadian Hockey League’s which are the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in a final tournament with a host team (which happens to be Anderson’s Mississauga St. Michael club) for the steal cage match of amateur hockey to crown the Summer Slam champion, the winner of the Memorial Cup.

Sharks prospect J.P. Anderson has had an amazing year in the Ontario Hockey League, posting the following stats:

Regular season: 38-10-1 with a 2.36 GAA and .911%

OHL Playoffs: 15-5 with a 2.11 GAA and .920%

Memorial Cup: 3-1 with a 1.76 GAA and .939%

Hard to say what Anderson’s future holds in the San Jose Sharks organization but his accomplishments this season in junior hockey have likely opened some eyes. For the 2nd straight season, he has won the Dave Pinkney Trophy for having the fewest GAA in the OHL regular season. At 19 years old, there’s likely no rush to push him into professional hockey, especially with Tyson Sexsmith, Alex Stalock and likely Harri Sateri circling for playing time in Worcester, but he’s definitely a guy to keep an eye on in the next two years.

Enjoy checking out this kid and his bright future tonight. Good luck Young Dude.

Wow… looks like major movement in the NHL… Atlanta to Winnipeg is done and “long term plan” is to move them to Western Conference and move either Nashville, Columbus, or Detroit to the East…. !

That would be crazy to not have Detroit in our conference any longer.

Dallas to Central and Colorado in Pacific? Or would anyone want Vancouver in the division?

    crazy…

Yep, it will be interesting to see how things turn out. I dont however think that vancouver will be in the pasific. The core of what builds up Northwest is the three canadian teams Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. They will probably stay in the same divition forever, the same way that San Jose, LA and Anaheim will be in the same divition forever. (Probably Phoenix also)

I think that we will get Colorado in the Pasific and that Dallas will get moved to Central.

I also think that the team that will get moved to east is Nashville to take the place of Atlanta in southeast.

But IF Detroit gets moved, we can always look forward to a stanley cup final between SJ and Detroit 😀

I’ve also heard that there is a solid chance Phoenix moves in 2012-13, so the league might have Winnipeg continue to play in the SE this year, then realign after that.

If there is no more Phoenix/Glendale based team – Dallas could stay or Vancouver could end up in the pacific. Especially if the Yotes move to another part of N. America like Hamilton, Quebec City, or Kansas City, as rumors have indicated. I seriously doubt they would have uneven divisions without an outright expansion.

        • Ian says:

I think the reason Winnipeg is going to stay in the SE has less to do with Phoenix and more to do with the nightmare it would be to realign the conferences and try to do the schedule with those realigned teams so short of notice. When they announce the realignment of the conferences for 12-13 it will probably be the middle of the season.
