The only decent list was for the centers, and even that one had Lecavalier way too high and Kopitar way too low.
Erik Johnson #10???
But… it is nice to realize that the Sharks have two legitimate #1 defenseman in Boyle and Burns. Add that to the fact that Vlasic is a stud #2, Demers would be a solid #3 on most teams (and still has upside), and Murray is finally put into his proper role as a #4-5, and the Sharks D looks mighty dangerous.
About every list of anything I’ve ever seen on the internet is flawed… you wouldn’t believe some of the people they allow to use that thing! Just ignore the idiot and spend some time on something more worthwhile than emailing him. Like updating your NHL11 rosters! (which is not so lame after all according to the poll…)
Cheers for answering my questions & the honour of being called a Nowhere Man! Although the song that might fit best is a song by Mott the Hoople called All the Young Dudes. I had it on a tape when I was in California back in ’97 & every time they yelled out “Where are Ya?” it led to 10 minutes of yelling it in English accents…
To come back to those questions:
1) You put a good case forward that Boston would have won regardless & it doesn’t make me feel any better about how the Sharks ended up. Although the more I think about it (ie Boston being on the brink at 2-0 down to Montreal in the first round), the more I come back to how anything can happen in the Playoffs & anyone can just string it together at the right time (see the Giants…) & the last 2 years they’ve just lost confidence at the wrong time.
2) Doug had it right that I was getting at whether the Sharks will still be competitive in 5-10 years time. I think you answered it by saying that Detroit were the exception that proved the rule… the answer is that yes, you can do it without prospects – if you have a winning mentality and can keep signing players at less than MV as they want to play for you. It needs a combination of factors & I’m not saying the Sharks have all of those things going for them, but they have done a good job of keeping “the window” open year after year.
3) Good answer re: the salary cap. I also follow a bit of football & baseball & EPL where there seems to be no limits to owners’ resources. Hockey is just in a different league in terms of money & its easy to forget that.
4) Couldn’t agree more!
Anyway, I’m all out of questions, so don’t think I can get you off the hook for another show without a bribe of some sort… like one of those Dudes on Hockey T-Shirts.
!
I apologise unreservedly @Slappy_SEZ. I have now done my research & take back my statement.
I now know that baseball is all about pitching and hitting is irrelevent. The Giants had the best record in the league last year and easily won the World Series, with all their pitchers named joint MVP. Across the board, before the season started, every pundit picked them to win.
It was an incorrect assessment on my part that the batters came into form in the post season and so I now see I was clearly wrong about the GIANTS “stringing it together at the right time.”
I will commit to doing this level of research before flapping my gums again.
I bet the writer just forgot about Clowe and I like long winded podcasts– hockey talk and Sharks talk is always welcome. Especially when watching the Giants pathetic offense and now he bats Belt with 2 outs and no one on base in the 13th
Since we’re on the SF Giants tip … If you’re a Giants fan you’ll know who Nyjer Morgan is… The ass hat that was acting out in our center field the other night. (Brewers CF’er and former WHL Regina Pats forward…)
Well this one’s for all the Sharks / Giants fans… Prepare to know the desire to gouge your eyes out..
Christ, is they guy annoying!!! I don’t care if he is wearing a Sharks jersey, if I saw him walking down the street I would punch him in the face!! Disgrace to the Bay Area right there.
Brent Burns has been extended for 5 years, making him the longest tendered Shark on the team (by a noticeable gap). This is the longest contract SJ has handed out since Michalek. Is that a good or a bad thing? I’m pretty stoked.
Agreed, I like the cap hit, it isn’t a 10 year behemoth deal, and this deal looks like an absolute steal if Burns takes another step forward and becomes a legit top 5 Dman. This deal never gets signed on the UFA market.
Injury concerns aside this was the one thing that worried me about the trade was being a one and done deal. I no longer have any issues with this trade and I’m pretty excited.
If you thought the LW list was retarded… The D list is just as bad.
Our own Dan Boyle listed at only #17…! BEHIND players like Dion Phaneuf, Andrei Markov, and Alex Pietrangelo… !…?
You beat me to it Tom. That list is pretty flawed.

I cannot believe Ryane Clowe isn’t on the list at all. Either he flies way under the radar or this guy is just an idiot.
Patrick Sharp didn’t make the list either… which seems odd.

The GIANTS have the best Pitching staff in the league. Possible the best staff in Major League HISTORY.
Know your business b4 you start flapping your gums, Limey.
Are you for real? In MLB history… LOL. I’m a lifelong Giants fan and I can tell you this isn’t even close to the best staff in history.
I think you need to take your own advice there bloke’…

2 long winded posts in a row… If I start sounding like EvilDoug, can someone please put me out of my misery?

You gotta love Fontenot with the bases loaded. That was my favorite….
I’m not sure how many times they think they can strand runners on and it ISN’T gonna bite them in the ass… The Torture was in full affect tonight.

My only concern is the concussion history. But I still love the trade and the extension.
Burns is a huge upgrade by himself, plus he creates much improved matchups/roles/ice-time for the other d-men.
Injury concerns aside this was the one thing that worried me about the trade was being a one and done deal. I no longer have any issues with this trade and I’m pretty excited.
i’m with you on the concussion concerns. 5 years is a big commitment with that elephant in the room, but you have to take a chance i suppose.
6 years if you count the last season of the existing contract.
