GO sharks! Not much to say i dont want to Jinx anything. Good vibes.

FYI sharks signed 2 pretty good Swedish players from Djurgarden a couple weeks ago. both above avrage players.

I can’t believe that Mike suggested that it might be a good idea to lose GM3. It’s NEVER a good idea to lose. Best to win this game and then win the next one… and then the one after that and so on…

I’ll be at the tank tonight hoping for victory – I guess Mike will be cowering in a closet scarfing ice cream somewhere 🙂

    Forget 2014! Get over it!

I got the impression that, of the choices between losing G3 and G4, Mike would prefer that the loss happen in G3 and of course a sweep would be the best. Maybe I misheard.

Only podcast I listen to. Great job. Keep ’em coming.

Have to be happy with 2-0 like the dudes said. I think the 4th line has actually been pretty good, one of the few lines to have positive possession in G2 and actually had some good scoring chances, as well. I think they had a couple of rough shifts at the start of G1 but have really settled in. Tommy Wingels has to be due for a goal sometime soon! 25 game goalless streak in the playoffs!

Marleau has been the opposite, really strong in the 1st half of G1 and pretty invisible since. He isn’t getting beat 5v5, but I really thought he would be winning that matchup. Couture’s line has really held strong against Carter’s line.

Thornton, Pavs, and Hertl are monsters. Best 1st line in hockey, or teal colored glasses?

  5. Tom says:

Last nights game 4 win was intense. The tank was rockin as usual.

Now they must close thos out friday. I know it’s a tall order but if they want to go far they have to close this out.

Think of all the past series where the Sharks failed to close out teams after an early series lead. They usually lose in the next round. But, when they take advantage of those early series leads they go deep.

Nashville isn’t an easy draw either. Sharks need to be thinking they have to step on LA’s throat Friday and end this in 5. Go home, rest, and hope the Ducks and Preds beat each other up for 7.

  6. Jeremy says:

    Mike and Doug,

Wow, they won. And doing it with a combination of leadership and crazy amazing scoring depth. What the hell is going on?

Are the Sharks impressively finding yet another way to tease us, tricking us into being rebelievers?

Fool me once (Mark Bell), shame on me. Fool me twice (everything since then) … You’re, you’re not going to fool me again.

By the way, suggestion for the show: ” this day in Sharks (or DOH podcast) history” where you can retell the moments of your favorite or hated moments. You can also play old clips from the show.

Lastly, Doug, with a 10 week old daughter myself now, I’ll always remember the episodes where your daughter was on the way and then finally born. And now to hear her yelling “go Sharks” on the pod now is pretty ridiculously awesome.

    Go Sharks.

  7. Cyoor says:

Is this the time where we put the loss of two years ago behind us and never look back?

Marleau tried to do one of his breakaway runs and came short. He does not have the speed he once had. However…. His random breakaway goals are not needed to win anymore.

The last game was a combination between the “new core” with Pavelski and Burns taking leader roles and the next generation of new players like Joonas Donskoi showing that they want to win and work hard.

They put in the next gear and made it happen.

It is also clear that the goalkeeping is A LOT more stable this year. The fluke goals and the fluke saves are mostly gone and it is replaced by stability.

The team might not on paper be the best in the league, but I am still positive. It feels like “choking” part might be a thing of the past.

    • Tom says:

You’re 100% spot on about the goaltending. It wasnt just bad last time, it was our Achilles heel. Plus losing Vlasic… you change and one of those factors amd I think SJ would have won in 2014 in 4 or 5. Against the SC champs. Let that sink in for a sec…

  8. Matty says:

The Sharks proved me wrong and made it out of the first round. Impressive play all around. But the Kings were shockingly bad. Quick was especially weak. No team in the west looks unbeatable so anything can happen. My cup pick was the Ducks but they are far from a sure thing.

  9. James says:

The Sharks handled the Kings, press, and pressure with class. Unfortunately Couture’s postgame comments were immature. But at least he was motivated. Will they be motivated to win another series, or is this enough for them?

  10. Rosevelt says:

The series difference was the Kings D. No Martinez, a weaker D roster overall, and poor play by Quick. Otherwise, this series would have looked more like Blues-Hawks. Here’s hoping the Preds pull off a miracle because the Ducks’ only weakness is goaltending.

    • Havoc says:

Agree 100%. The Sharks were great. PDB made all the right moves. SJ was the better team. But I was shocked at how poorly the King played. Thinking that 30+ minutes a night finally did Doughty in. And Quick is not the goalie he once was. The Sharks ain’t perfect, but I think the Central is overrated. Hawks top players aren’t playing well. Blues offense is weak. Stars have Niemi in net (’nuff said). If the Sharks can get past the Ducks, they can beat anyone.

    • James says:

True. Team Teal played well and deserved to win. Great teams do what they did in the 3rd yesterday – put aside their mistakes and rebound. Couldn’t believe they played so well in the 3rd. That said, what kind of a playoff team lets their opponent score on the first or second shot in 4 of 5 games? This wasn’t the same old Sharks, but it also wasn’t the same old Kings. Next round will be tougher.

    • Tom says:

Sure but that’s what was the difference in 2014 for us. No Vlasic and our goaltending was even worse.

Bottom line, if heathly and playing well, both these teams have what it takes to go deep in the playoffs, its just we’ve faced each other three straight rounds.

      • Taylor says:

I savor the reversal. In ’14, the Sharks lost a key D man (Vlasic) on an already weak D roster, plus they had goalie issues (Niemi). In ’16, it was the Kings who lost a key D man (Martinez) on an already weak D roster and had goalie issues (Quick).

  11. hal says:

my, my… look at all of the unicorns and rainbows around here 🙂

    WHAT A GREAT SERIES!!

  12. Taylor says:

Funny how the postgame narrative has made Donskoi’s line the heroes. Reality is they were on for all 3 Kings goals in the 2nd period collapse and nearly single-handedly cost us the game. The #1 star was Burns. 3 points, primary assist on the GWG, and +2 overall. PDB has handled Burns’ ice time masterfully. The Wookie’s early-season late-game defensive breakdowns at 28 min TOI have turned into 3rd period game-winners at 23 min TOI. That’s why Wilson needed to spend big at the deadline to add Polak. The team needed a 3rd pairing to play 15 min/game against a playoff calibre team and reduce the top-4 minutes. It paid off this series. No injuries, strong D overall. Very different story on the Kings’ roster, where Doughty was overplayed with rotating D partners, never really settling in. Kudos to the Sharks, from the management to the players.

  13. Rosevelt says:

    Burns 8 pts, +2, 3 pp pst
    Doughty 1 pt, -5, 0 pp pts

  14. Decker says:

    What happened to the Duuuuuuudes?

  15. Hal says:

How about db22 being scratched for his (likely) last NHL game? Sad 🙁

  16. Hal says:

have we ever played a whole series with the same lineup in every game? I can’t remember that happening before…

    • hal says:

Daren Stevens confirmed – this is the first sharks team to win a series with the same lineup in every game. good call coach – I know LOTS of people were wondering about that 4th line after the loss. I know I was…
