I really enjoyed this one too. REALLY glad that the dudes are not going to turn the platform into a ‘root the team to lose’ podcast. I’ve written this year off as a rebuild – I don’t need to see playoffs, but I do want to see progress.
I don’t understand why we shouldn’t root for last place. As Doug joked, the worst outcome would be they end up picking around 10 again. And get a low impact player. If they get Bedard, a generational talent, no one will care about this season.
I don’t think for a second that the Sharks are intentionally tanking. But like Mike said that may be the result nd I agree with James no one will care about this year if they get Bedard. The bigger issue is what Doug pointed out which is here’s no difference between this year’s team and the years prior. I mean if you’re going to get bigger and slower then hit somebody, grind it out, cycle the puck, do something different. Btw I never thought that strategy would work in the new, fast NHL, but at least it would be a change. If Grier is secretly tanking, he’s playing this so well he’s fooled me 🙂
the best case we could possibly hope for this year is that ek65 has a great year and the sharks get a top 3 pick (yes, maybe even bedard if we want to dream). that sets up dealing away karlsson on a burns like deal and starting over. buy out labanc, keep couture, hertl, vlasic as veteran leaders. the sharks could really have something in 3-4 years led by their new pick, eklund, bordeleau, and a completely remade defense. they key is, grier can’t do something insane like trade away a high pick or a prospect in order to improve the team now. this should have all been done 2 years ago but better late than never. and don’t blame quinn. no coach could win with this roster.
With 4 goals in his first 5 games for the Cuda I agree. The Sharks desperately need top 6 scoring wingers. If he keeps it up he will be in the big club this season.
Brief question. I notice a theme is you prefer young skill players not be introduced to the NHL via the 4th line. But I’ve seen other clubs do this successfully with their players. For a current example, the the Ducks are playing #3 overall pick Mason McTavish on their 4th line. Could you clarify why you think that is a bad idea?
The Sharks goaltending situation is so weird. Look at Aidin Hill, traded away and has a 4-0 with a .940 for VGK. Is our D that bad? Answer: yes, I think it is.
It will never, ever happen, but right now would probably be the only time the Sharks could deal Karlsson, retaining some major salary of course. But some team would take him after a good offensive start (as long as they pay no attention to how poorly he’s payed defensively). They should do it before he inevitably gets injured again 🙂
EK65 sure looks dangerous in the offensive zone every time he has the puck. So confident all of a sudden. Harder shot this year somehow. Incredible vision, thinking a play ahead. Fun to watch. But he is a *terrible* defender. Can’t always see how lazy he covers his guy on TV or how forwards just skate by him in transition. As a whole, I think this is the slowest d group I’ve seen as a Sharks fan. I think EK65 is so focused on scoring he’s always looking to transition into offense rather than settle in and play basic d. He’s just not into it.
Hey, where you have guys been? Haven’t heard from you in almost over a month…. so many things have happened, time to discuss, come on. Sharks have picked it up a bit, discuss!
Dudes, I know it’s a tough season but now you can talk about your boy Dan Boyle’s girlfriend Tara Slone moving to town. Best free agent signing by the Sharks in years!
Great episode dudes. Made me laugh, which we need this year! Some amazing stats through 5 games.
Reimer has a .919 save percentage, but he hasn’t won a game bc the team does not score.
Meier and Hertl have 1 point each.
SJ has 1 PPG but has allowed 2 shorties.
Let the Bedard Sweepstakes begin!

keep it up dudes

The Sharks are definitely not tanking. Despite what everyone seems to prefer, I expect Bordeleau to be called up to the Sharks this season.

Hi Dudes, Longtime listener. Love your podcast!

Thanks, dudes! Go Sharks!
Great pod guys. Keep them coming.

Actually I don’t think this is such a crazy possibility. Maybe he’s playing so well because he wants a trade to a contender similar to what Burns did.

Hey dudes, we miss you.
Also not sure I want to keep my season tix. Sharks are .500 on the road but 1-8 at home lol.
