Great analysis by The Dudes and I think the point about precedent being set with Burns’ deal is probably right. I’m on the side that the main value of this trade was not having to give up too much to get rid of the tail end of that contract. The Sharks getting stuck with another albatross contract would have been infuriating as a fan if nothing else. Even if Karlsson stays healthy for the rest of that contract I don’t expect the Sharks to be competing for a cup in that time.
I agree with the dudes that this was a decent trade all things considered. I was freaking out as I first heard the news and was assuming 50% or more was being held, but was shocked to hear that it was only 13%.
