Mike and Doug have plenty of time to talk about the signing of Andrew Murray, the top 10 Sharks prospects, and more philosophical musings about the NHL.

(At last year’s camp) Ty Doherty passed me as he stepped onto the ice.

    . . . GIANT. The guy is a GIANT. Remember: 6’7″ + Skates = 6’10″/6’11”.

I luv Benn Ferriero. Hope he can stick.

Freddie Hamilton is a guy I was unaware of, until I started reading about Dougie (leading up to the 2011 NHL Entry Draft). The Kid looks like a solid prospect. Loved hearing him receive some “dude-love”.

    ‘MOTT The Hoople’ . . . nice pull. 😀

I can’t believe you guys almost got to 50 minutes with that. I’m a relative newcomer to the DoH fold, and I enjoy the back and forth – but man this is a rough week for Sharks fans to get excited about. I can’t wait for the season to start so your repartee accompanies content of interest again. I was laughing and grinning like a moron sure, and hats off to you guys for being able to make 48 min listenable.

  3. Tom says:

I guess I’m lame too cause I did the exact same thing with my NHL 11!

And loved the discussion about LA. Here’s my 2 cents. I’m totally with Doug on this one. I’m just not sold on that team. Lombardi has put together a nice looking roster but I’m gonna let them prove it to me by competing for/winning a division title or winning a PO series. They haven’t done either in quite a while.

In fact I’m not sure Anaheim isn’t a better team.

I got ripped lady year on FTF for claiming the Kings werent yet “an elite team”.. Theyre good, they’re better on paper, but I’m gonna let that group prove it before I consider them a bigger threat than other western conference teams like Detroit, Vancouver, Chicago, and the Ducks.

Every nerd has a lame hobby, often several. Like Mike, I too read big sections of the CBA… though it seems mostly because I enjoy telling people on the internet how wrong they are whenever they talk about hockey.

      I can’t help it!

  4. Justin says:

Is it just me or are the podcasts getting goofier as the off-season rolls along?

Btw Dudes, thanks for answering my question last week about J.P Dumont. Only thing is of course someone is gunna have a huge drop off in point production when they are seeing 4th line mins as opposed to 1st or 2nd line mins.

  5. Doug says:

Andrew Murray signed for $575,000. Me likey beer.

  6. Ruben says:

Hahaha, I just can’t pick in the poll… the sad thing is, I do both (or at least I used to)!

I agree with Doug and Tom as well on LA. They are strong down the middle, and have a good top 4 with just awesome upside, but the Sharks are just dominant down the wings (Pavs, Marleau, Clowe, Havlat vs. Brown, Williams, Gange, Brown) and a little stronger on the bottom D pair (Green/Martinez/Druiske vs. Demers/Vandemeer/Braun). They are certainly top 10, but Im not sure they are in that top 5, cream of the crop group just yet.

However, I do think they are a step better than Anaheim, especially with the issues going on with Hiller.

Good job as always, Dudes. Congrats on the beer, Doug!

Regarding the poll question: I think you guys need to get outside more. It is summer, you know.

However, since we’re talking about NHL video games, you should check out NHL Slapshot on the Wii. The game play kicks ass. It comes with a stick that you put the controllers into and you can use it to check your opponent or lift his stick when you’re on D and do wrist- and slap-shots on offense. I like playing against the Pens and seeing how many times I can light up Crosby in one game. At one point, I had 5 guys in the box who had each been given a minor for charging Crosby. I think Bettman was the ref in that game.

  8. chicowildcat says:

Add me to the list, I totally updated NHL11 by hand!

  9. Jim G. says:

that was one weak list of Shark prospects that you guys listed–they really need to win a Cup and soon with basically no prospects on the horizon.

  10. Ruben says:

As far as the prospects go, Joe Pavelski and Jason Demers weren’t exactly highly ranked guys by prospect hounds. The Sharks have done absurdly well with their later picks, allowing them to choose to let a guy like Ian White walk because Justin Braun has developed well.

The thing is, eventually guys like Logan Couture and Ryan Clowe have to take the torch from Marleau and Thornton as those guys decline. Is Logan Couture a legit #1 center capable of putting up 90 points in a season? Can Ryan Clowe take his game to even another level and become one of the top 5 or 6 LWs in the game? If so, then the Sharks have plenty of time to restock their farm (their D corp looks set for the foreseeable future) while still being a competitive team. If not, then the window closes with Joe and Patty’s peak unless new superstars are somehow brought in.

  11. Tomi says:

That’s nothing guys, I was too cheap to buy NHL11, so I went to Gamestop and picked up NHL06 for like $5, then made all the necessary trades (starting with Sturm, Primeau, Stuart for Thornton), started a franchise and began trading packages of long-gone players (Scott Thornton, Nils Ekman, etc.) for high-end draft picks. Then I edited the names/stats/numbers of these draft picks to match all the Sharks players who weren’t even in the league yet (Clowe, Pavelski, Murray, Vlasic, etc.) and eventually I created the complete current lineup!!!

Needless to say, I think I should just save myself some time and splurge for NHL12 when it arrives…
