As a Sharks fan, I’d like to see Nabby only give up two goals tonight with Thornton scoring one and assisting Marleau on the other. I don’t care about the game’s outcome. I just want the Sharks players to have a solid game and, most importantly, stay healthy.
I think Purdy just gave us Nic’s new nickname: What’s His Name Wallin.
Even better, the Russians decide to start Bryzgalov, the Sharks chase him with three early goals, and Nabokov comes in and stands on his head to get the Russians back in the game.
And even though I want Canada to win, I hope Crosby does nothing and Ovechkin goes off. I’m sick of Crosby getting credit when things go well, and not getting held accountable at all when they don’t (At least in the media. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors).
Aagainst the Swiss they win in a shootout, and the only highlight we see is Crosby’s shootout goal. Marleau and Heatley score the regulation goals and get no mention.
If the NHL knew how to market their product well, the league would be much more popular in the US than it is today.
Not entirely true… Marleau was mentioned because one of the Swiss goals went off his skate.
Jonas Hiller showed us again today why we should fear a Sharks v. Ducks first round matchup. If the Swiss had a decent team they would have been a serious contender.
What a meltdown by Russia. Nabby didn’t play great, he was bad… But he didn’t get much help from his D either. They were outmatched and outclassed by the Canadian forwards.
Nabokov definitely wasn’t sharp, but the announcers weren’t calling out the Russian D-men at all. On Perry’s second goal (HATED seeing him do well, by the way), they were on Nabby for being too aggressive out of his net. Uh, when it’s a 2-on-4 in favor of your defensemen, it isn’t that big of a stretch to assume that somebody will cover the guy without the puck and you can cut down the angle on the shooter.
That said, there were some sofites, too.
At least Nabby will finally get some rest. Silver lining anyone?
Another thing.
I’ve also been impressed with Halak in this tournament. Great solid play.
Oh and DW please go get Shea Weber. I’d like to have a defenseman that can shoot the puck so hard it dissolves through the net, ok? Thnx
DW could’ve drafted Shea Weber, but he passed up on Weber in the 2nd round… twice. DW chose to go with Josh Hennessy and Matt Carle instead.
30 teams passed up on Weber, many of them more than once. He was drafted in the 2nd round.
Hind Sight is 20/20, nobody predicted he’d bet *that* good.
This is the most retarded argument when it comes to drafting.
To be fair, 29 other GM’s also missed the boat on Shea Weber. Nashville also drafted that amazing LW Konstantin Glazachev before Weber in the 2nd round, so they weren’t too high on Weber at the time – or they wouldn’t have passed on him twice themselves.
You could play this game for every good player in the league. The Sharks did pretty well that draft year, 5 guys have played in the NHL (Bernier, Michalek, Hennessey, Carle and Pavs). I think you might have a hard time finding any other team with as productive a draft, especially in their first year as an NHL GM. He did get Joe Pavelski in the 7th round too, let’s not forget. Even a team known for good home grown talent like New Jersey was only able to get one NHL player out of that draft.
Easy, kids. Tom said, “Oh and DW please go get Shea Weber.” I was just merely pointing out that we could’ve had him. Chill out people. No hockey today and everybody’s on edge. Ha!
Good call Patrick. I had the exact opinion on that play. But I don’t expect any different from Eddie O. I never liked that guy… Nabby jumps out like that cause he will eat that puck up every time and never give up a rebound. But the shot never got to him. It deflected off his own D right to Perry who was basically uncontested by the other Russian D. Pretty brutal and unfair to dump on Nabby.
Bit of an upset with that Sweden loss to Slovakia? Canada gets a little lucky too! They get a stumbling Russia and no Sweden. Hopefully Kipper blows up Friday and we get our Canada v. USA Gold medal game baby!!!
Boyle was outstanding last night!
Something positive about a Shark?? Somebody call the authorities, I think something terrible must have happened to the real Jerry.
I agree, though. Awesome game, and I liked the takedown of Semin at the end.
Mock if you must, but I call ’em like I see ’em.
All meant to be in good fun.
I sort of feel about the Sharks the way I feel about a younger sibling, where I can give them a hard time but as soon as somebody else does I get really defensive/protective. In other words, I generally agree with a good chunk of what you say, even if I don’t like hearing it.
I don’t think they’re baggin on you Jerry…
I do like Doug’s point though.
There is no way Nashville gives up Weber. At all. But, imagine that PP unit. We’d basically have like 25% of one of the greatest Canadia. Olympic teams assembled. Oh wait… We kinda already do!!
What, are you guys trying to disprove Godwin’s Law or something?. What the hell is wrong with you people, trying to be nice?!
Nazi
Dammit. QED.
Why they didn’t pull Nabakov after the first period is beyond me. Bryzgalov looked much better. Had they put him in to start the second period, Russia may have actually had a chance at a comeback. What a disappointment that game was. Silly Ruskies.
I can’t bring myself to cheer for Canada in anything. They admittedly have no respect for American hockey and on top of that, it seemed that every single Canadian in the stands at the US games was cheering for the opposition. They boo us at every opportunity in every event. They’d root for the devil himself if he played Team USA even if they knew it meant an eternity in hell.
How about Milbury’s “Eurotrash” comment? I think even JR was shocked.
Wings Fan, I have to agree with you. And honestly the reason is that a lot of Canadians fear a rematch for gold because there is doubts now that we could win. (and I have just been deported anyone got a room for me?) . Today I was sitting at the schools pub and they were talking about how great it would be if Finland beats the States, I was actually very annoyed. Don’t get me wrong I want Canada to win Gold but to me if its against anyone other then the USA its going to feel kind of empty, I want the return match the first game dispite the outcome was great, exciting hockey. Now obviously the slovak’s could mess this up, and I won’t cry to face the Fins but if we are to win gold I want it to be against the USA, not because I hate American Hockey but because I want to win gold against the best team left standing and other then us its the USA. I don’t know why our contries suddenly hate each other… guess we needed the cold war to be friendly.
The thing that would be funny if Canada won a rematch against the U.S. in a gold medal game is:
When the U.S. won the World Juniors a few weeks ago after losing to Canada earlier in the tournament, I heard many, many Canadians saying that effectively they both won the tournament because they were the two best teams and they split in head-to-head games. I wonder if they’ll remember that argument this Sunday…
Does anyone miss the days when it wasn’t ok to lose but it was accepted. I hate this every ones a winner mentality that we for some reason have embraced. As far as I’m concerned Patrick is the only thing Canada won in the world JR’s is 2nd.
I am not going to pretend I speak for the other 36 Million people of my country, but if we win I’ll be happy, and if we lose I won’t sit here trying to come up with an everyone wins senario. I don’t like the idea of not winning gold, but I can certainly accept it if in fact USA, Slovakia or Finland does beat Canada. In fact you won’t even get a “at least we beat the Russians” out of me, although it was pretty great.
23 comments. We must be ready for some hockey.
Uh oh. Kipper made a stinky in his pants!!
LIKE. Oh wait, this isn’t Facebook?
Yeah that was a big WOW For sure.
Hats off to team USA, coming into the tournament no one gave team USA a chance. Your country played a hell of a tournament and all Americans should be proud of what they did.
