Some random thoughts as I wait for the Blackhawks/Preds game to start:
– The poll results are overwhelmingly against my playoff goatee. I’d like to point out the goatee is 3-1 while all your beards are 3-2, so who’s better now? Huh? Who’s better now?
– Teams facing Round 1 death so far in the playoffs are 3-0 in elimination games this Stanley Cup playoffs. Ottawa, Buffalo and Montreal all said “Hell no, we won’t go” in the last two days – so anyone who thinks the Avs are going to ski off quietly into the snowstorm is mistaken. CORRECTION: NEW JERSEY COULDN’T PULL IT OFF IN GAME 5. TEAMS ARE 3-1 IN ELIMINATION GAMES. PROPS TO EVILDUCKS ON THAT ONE.
– Milan Hejduk should have kept his fat mouth shut. Questioning the heart of the Sharks and then going out with an injury is karma baby. Put that in your “lower body injury” and smoke it.
– I like Matt Duchene, but this quote makes him sound like a guy who lives in a grown man’s basement.
– Tonight is going to OT. I’m just sure of it. The Avs are going to clog our toilet all night long and Andy has one last magic trick up his sleeve – Sharks win 2-1 but it’s gonna be stressful. Gonna guess Dan Boyle’s the hero again just because he strikes me as a guy who wants to make 18,000 people cry.
– I’m sour about Dan Boyle not being a Norris nominee. Hard to argue with the three guys on the list, but if Mike Green isn’t good enough in his overall game to be on the Olympic team, what makes him one of three best d-men in the NHL? They should just give it to Duncan Keith right now.
– Matt Duchene does live in a grown man’s basement and admits he can’t really take care of himself. Punch him again Jamie and tell him to take out the trash.
– Will our joy and elation of winning a playoff series take a twisted turn when the Red Wings come to town next week?
Excellent point about Green and the Olympic team. No one picked up on that yet. Boyle has east coast bias going against him, and his numbers were not off the charts like Green’s. But I’m as upset as you guys about him not even getting a nomination. I hope Doughty wins it because the kid plays the puck on both sides of the ice. I can’t imagine how he’ll play in his prime if this is how he plays before he can even buy a drink.
With those kind of stats, a full playoff beard from the beginning would have put us at 4-0 right now.
My Scottish/English blood is starting to show; I’m sportin’ the neck beard!! I’m starting to look an extra from Braveheart…
Anyways. I agree Doug. Game might be close. Or a repeat of last game too ;)… God I’d love to see Dan Boyle get the game winner. It would be a total redemption. Or if Patty got it that would gr great too!
I’m still holding on to hope that Nashville can make it in seven. I’m watching game 5 now, Chicago is clearly the better team but their youth is showing in their play. Mistakes and a lack of urgency could bite them.
Teams facing elimination games are 3-1 so far this Playoffs. I know New Jersey hardly counts as a team.
And they sucked in their attempt to stay alive to a former Shark goalie.
True that Evil. Mental block on those chokers.
Oh New Jersey,
What if?

GO SHARKS GO! ROUND TWO!
GO SHARKS GO! – ROUND TWO & THREE & FOUR!!! – Can’t remember the last time we had genuine Playoff optimism…
Own goals aside, the only time the Aves really had the upper hand in the series was after the very first goal. When Doug’s right, he’s right – that was all they got!
Game 3 may have been the best thing that could have happened to this team.
Guess the official record on teams surviving elimination is 3-3. Ottawa and Colorado go down tonight.
Yotes forced a game 7!
Either way it’s good for us because I think whoever wins this series is our next opponent. We want them tired and run down from a tough 7 game battle … But fuck De-twat either way.
Unless you like the Kings or Preds to win their series and after what the ‘Yotes did today anything is possible.
I want to believe.
I really, really WANT to believe.
It doesn’t matter who we draw next, just… get… it… done!
Looking forward to the next show, you guys crack me up like no other sports podcast out there. Keep up the great work and thanks.
I want Detroit.
I strangely do to. I know they would be the toughest draw, but if they were to beat Detroit (and I think it is more probable than not) imagine the huge confidence boost it would give to this team. Especially if they were to go into a game 6 in Joe Louis and win the series there? Talk about exercising demons.
At this point I don’t want any team more than another, the only reason I’d even hedge to Phoenix is because of travel. All that is left in the West are teams that have over 100 point seasons. None of them will be easy, all can be amazing and will be tough opponents.
I also think there is a clear difference between wanting to avoid a team vs. wanting to kick the living shit out of them…
I think too many Sharks fans are scared of Detroit… They shouldn’t be. The yotes are taking them to a game seven, and the Sharks are better than the Coyotes, right? I think we can take Detroit or Phoenix in at least 6.
But, seeing the Wings lose in the first round would be almost as sweet as a defeat by the Sharks.
I’ll bet anyone $100 Doughty wins it. If you listen to XM Home Ice, everyone is so ridiculously high on Doughty. Not saying there isn’t good reason, but I’m just saying there is so much hype with him, it’s a lock. Keith fizzled off a little while Doughty is peaking at the right time–which sounds all too familiar in the hockey world of cliches.
