Slick Win in Oil Country
April 2nd, 2009, 8:51 pm
The San Jose Sharks are so close I can smell it like Madonna smells another orphan in need. They are getting healthy – Blake and Goc were leaned upon for over 36 minutes of ice time tonight as the Oilers threw everything they had at the Sharks for the final 22 minutes after Gagne’s goal and they still couldn’t beat the Sharks. The NHL season is a stretch of hot and cold and the Sharks have experienced both – and now they are getting hot again at just the right time.
What else could go right?
Well, 1900 miles away the Red Wings lost their third straight at home to a St. Louis team that is busting its ass and playing way over its head right now. I was rooting for those darn’ Blues the whole way. I even made myself a Dan Hinote jersey out of garbage bags, duct tape and the body of Paul Kariya. Thanks to my new uni and the Blues determination, tonight the Sharks are six points ahead of Detroit with five games to go.
What else could go right? How about a storybook ending.
The Sharks could make it nearly impossible on the Red Wings by beating the Ducks at the Tank on Saturday night. Its a perfect way for San Jose to a) bury the Wings, b) show the Ducks who is boss in case they do battle in round one, c) for Shelley to hold down Parros while Staubitz shaves that porn-stache with a Man Groomer…..okay, maybe Option A is a little out of the question, but the others are very doable.
The Tank is going to be exploding with playoff atmosphere on Saturday night, especially since this could actually be a first round couple. So…what else could go right? How about beating the Ducks, demoralizing the Wings all while getting Patrick Marleau back.
All I need is a beer and this dream night is complete.
What a great night. Makes me want to search stubhub for tickets to saturday’s game.
Great night, even the refs couldn’t steal that game from us. Pav’s should get to smack that ref in the face with his stick and see if he “dives”.
I’ll be at the Ducks/Sharks game on Sunday, hopefully they’ll still be in the picture and we’ll get a good game both nights.
Here’s hoping the injury trend continues it’s reversal.
Does anyone have a clip of the Pavelski penalty? I was on the road listening to the Oiler’s radio announcers via XM and they were saying it’s an absolute dive and really tearing into him, but when I got home to see the third Randy and Drew were talking about how it was a clear penalty when the refs missed another high stick on him.
They way the Oiler’s announcers were going off they sounded absolutely disgusted.
I have to say that from watching it live, Pavelski got clipped under the chin by a high stick – now I do think he dressed it up a little bit, but earlier in the game Roloson flopped to the ground after barely getting tangled with JR – which I’m sure the Oilers radio guys didn’t see a problem with.
Great post! Man Groomer… LOL
I think Pavs got hit in the nose or mouth, which would cause you to jerk your head upwards. Wearing a cage on the ice myself, I can’t say I know how I would react to something like that, but it’s at least plausible.
I think that if you know Little Joe you know he wouldn’t dive like that. He may dress it up, but that reaction was an impulse to get his face away from a stick.
After watching the last two games I’m crapping myself I’m so excited for the 15th!
According to sportsclubstats, there is a 99% likelihood that the Sharks will end up 1st in the conference. So does that mean tuning up and refining play, but not overdoing it in search of wins (i.e. judicious ice time for the top lines and top D)?
The Ducks need the wins more than the Sharks, and are the hottest team right now – have fun at a great game!
The only problem I see with Shelley holding down Parros is that Selanne would take offense and end up hitting Shelley with his purse.
