Greiss on waivers and Wingels to Worcester
October 11th, 2010, 11:55 am
According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Sharks waived Thomas Greiss yesterday. Will someone claim him and his 500k salary for this year? I would guess that Edmonton, Atlanta, Nashville might have some level of interest in the German goalie based on their lack of depth or injury situation. It wouldn’t be shocking if Greiss bounced around this year Jay Leach style. Do we hope he gets claimed or do you want Greiss to stay in the system?
Tommy Wingels has also been sent back to Worcester. Is this the beginning of the 2010-11 Worcester Shuttle or has McCarthy really earned the extra forward spot?
Exciting discussion for tomorrow nights podcast awaits!

Wanted to discuss this here and also posing this as a Q for the podcast.
Doesn’t the fact that Greiss cleared waivers mean that we overvalued him, since any team could have claimed him for free? I realize the Goalie market isn’t great but if NO ONE wanted him, I think it means that Greiss just ain’t all that…
I wonder – do you guys think GMs ever confer with each other before putting someone on waivers? Like scope out who might be interested and strike up some kind of verbal deal with them to let players slide through untouched? Maybe not. Either way, glad Greiss is in the system still, although I feel bad for him and just want him to play somewhere.
Hey CBA Guru, does this mean to bring him back he would go though reentry wavers and someone could claim him for half price, or is he too young for that?
