    Dudes,

I wanted to chime in on some of the topics on this week’s podcast…

I agree with Mike about Heatley – I think overall he’ll be fine and not a major concern.

And I think Seto should and will get a similar one, or possibly two, year deal… But, I could see him getting a deal like Burrows has in Vancouver though also. Those two players are somewhat similar in my mind and I could see DW trying to give Seto a bit longer deal for slightly more money. Because Seto is only 24 a longer term deal might make sense… But one year is probably wiser… There will be a major drop off however, of contracts after this next season and I wonder if DW is looking to lock up some of the younger talent now to lessen that effect when Marleau, Thornton, and Dan Boyle all come calling.

On Eager… I actually believe that DW is really hot on this guy. He praised him a lot in the media when they aquired him and I think he’s back for AT LEAST one year at around 1.0 – 1.2M. Also, becuase I think Scott Nichol’s days were numbered the day Ben Eager made the lineup. DW compared him directly to Scott Nichol in those same comments. The only way I see Nichol back is in a very very limited role as Doug said but maybe only for league minimum.

There is type of player I think we could really use in the bottom six, which is a younger talented player that will put pressure on the top six for playing time. A player that might force some competition with under performing forwards who get a little too comfortable in their roles. When I look at the roster as of now – I dont really see a player that could threaten Pavelski, Seto, or even Heatley, if they suddenly stopped competing and performing. I’d like think Mitchell or McGinn could do that, but I just dont see it. I’m not sure if there is even a guy in the system that can do that – but I thought that competition was a little lacking this year.

I wonder if DW has a joker up his sleeve this year and wants to bring another guy in the bottom six that is off everybody’s radar again – like a Claude Lemiux or a JR?
