DOH 275 – Mark Purdy and the Movable Sharks
June 23rd, 2014, 9:19 pm
Mark Purdy of the Mercury News joins us to talk about his article about the Sharks terrible TV deal. Mark also weighs in on the major Sharks topics of this offseason- the avowed rebuild, the possible departure of Thornton and Marleau, and the very real departure of Drew Remenda.

The Purdy interview was a real scoop. Filled in several blanks regarding the article. Appreciated Purdy’s point about Sharks vs Kings in elimination games. My two cents is, if Thorton is in the locker room, even in a “reduced role,” that would be a disaster. Also, it really just set in that Drew’s not broadcasting next year. Getting him on the podcast would be amazing.
Loved the interview boys. Great work.
Best gem for me was the part where Purdy said Rob Blake told him on his way out that he believed the Sharks just never found their highest gear while other teams did.
I think that’s 100% correct. And while I used to think that was a coaching thing, I firmly belive that lies with the leadership core on the ice.
Either way I think that needs to change and continue to feel that Jumbo and Patty, as much as I love those guys, cannot be the center pieces of this team any longer. I just don’t see them willing to accept such a role reduction either. I think they’re gone at some point.
Also, anyone want to make a prediction for the draft?
I think DW might pull a move like he did to get Couture, move up to the 8-12 range after trading an overrated Finnish goalie to a dupe Eastern conference team….
Wow, great interview guys. Don’t know how you guys do it, but after the interview with Kurz and this one, you guys seem to have a great knack for getting really good (and new) information from your interviews. Would love to see what Drew Remenda would say on a DOH podcast
I think DB22 to New York Rangers. I think they saw what Doughty did to them and think that kind of Dman is the missing piece. If Boyle is healthy, he will be a great addition.
As a Bay Area transplant to NYC, I agree!
I can deal with DB22 on the Rangers I don’t have any strong feelings one way or the other on them.

Q: Doug, in the off-season you promised “major changes.”
DW: Yes.
Q: Is there a new coach?
DW: No.
Q: Did you trade Joe Thornton?
DW: No.
Q: Did you trade Patrick Marleau?
DW: No.
Q: Did you trade Anti Niemi?
DW: No.
Q: You did at least get rid of Mike Brown, right?
DW: No, we signed him for two years $2.4 million.
Q: What the f*ck? What’s different at all?
DW: Dan Boyle and Drew Remenda, two of your favorite faces in the Sharks organization, are gone. Burns has changed positions again. Oh, and now no one wears the little C on their jersey. Major changes.
Hahahaha. But I think Niemi will be gone, though that’s not exactly a big change.
Don’t forget the Havlat buyout!!
But fantastic none the less, a great laugh. I’m starting to wonder if rebuild is an excuse to not spend any more money to improve the team.
