Is this a test to see if anybody listens to the podcast? 😉 Seems to be from last year prior to the Olympics…

  2. Scott says:

and I thought I was going crazy on my commute home yesterday…

So as far as Nemo goes do you guys think maybe taking a flier on someone like a Jonas Enroth might be worth it? His numbers arent terrible for being on the Sabers plus he is young and experienced so he could take over for AL if he struggles and removes preasure from Groesnick

  4. Slappy_SEZ says:

Cooter no longer “FITS” on Team Teal.

Illustrated BEST . . . by the (ubiquitous) “I did not realize he had that many points (this season)” moment.

‘JVR’ in a player-for-player trade is adequate value.

JVR’s Leafs came within a BREATH of knocking out The Bruins. Despite your snipes – and Boston Fanboy-ism – THAT. HAPPENED.

    [PLUS: They, recently, fired Carlyle.]

    . . . **SIGH*** . . .

You acknowledge JVR being injured (in the past), then chalk-up Hertl’s PERCEIVED struggles to a . . . “sophomore slump.” When (not yet a full year ago) EVERY Sharks fan watched The QUEENS give Tomas fell by a Dustin Brown SPECIAL . . . (!)

If you insist on PRETENDING hockey competition occurs in a vacuum . . . FINE . . . just show some DAMN consistency, is all I would ask . . .

Nieto scored an empty-net goal . . . and ONE “honest” goal. That he HAPPENS to have 7 assists — after FORTY+ GAMES — is completely incidental.

    Sh*t. Which Sharks, who’s dressed for 40+ games, DOESN’T have 9 points?!! I mean give-me-a-BREAK . . .

HERTL has shown — as least ONE “goal scorers goal” . . . ‘THIS SEASON’. Hertl, turned ’21’ this past Novermber. To have shown so much talent — at so young an age — is phenomenal.

He and NIETO are not the same player . . . AT ALL.

    ‘NIETO stakes fast . . . and looked good on a couple goals last season (thanks to Patty)’ . . . WHOOP-DEE-DOO . . .

That NIETO is getting this many chances, is indicative of WHERE the Sharks are ‘as a team’.

NOT Niemo . . . or any of the other sh*t you guy HARP upon. NIETO is USELESS. Yet, The Sharks are holding onto him like Grim-Death . . .

‘TWO GOALS’. ONE EMPTY-NETTER. The OTHER . . . by virtue of skating Top-Six minutes for . . . the better part of (the first) HALF of this season.

    WOW . . .

    WHOA . . .

    Pump the breaks.

Y’all (and FTF) ASSUMED Demers and Braun were ‘an equal quantity’, too . . .

    . . . ‘WRONG’ . . . (!!!)

    Couture. Marleau. Thornton. ‘ONE of them’ . . . HAS-TO go . . . ‘NOW’.

[And] We all know it’s Cooter.

ALSO: I **never said, “JVR 4 Cooter Trade = CUP”

All any team can, ever, do . . . is DRESS the best squad.

The Hockey Gods decide whom lifts Lord Stanley’s Chalice . [Made evident by Los Angeles’ recent success; as ONLY ‘an act of god’ would allow for such a thing.]

    HERTL, KARLSSON, GOLDOBIN . . . van RIEMSDYK . . .

These are the players San Jose needs most.

Too bad . . . I won’t watch any of it . . . until CSNBA Removes that STUPID advertising overlay on the glass (behind the nets).

***SERIOUSLY*** TWEET & CALL THESE FUX!! COMPLAIN!!! RAISE HELL!!! OR THEY’LL JUST KEEP SHOVING MORE AND MORE ADVERTISING DOWN ALL OUR THROATS.

Who types like this? I can’t read this bullshit. The random words in all caps, unnecessary ellipses, arbitrary quotes, incoherent thoughts, and lack of flow make me want to vomit all over myself.

Is there a Hide Fedora extension for you? There should be.

One day I’ll sit down and try and decode this garbage. There are moments I think it’s based on English, but I’m just not sure.

  5. Ruben says:

I think Doug is severely overestimating a) how good Burns is defensively and b) how awesome Burns was at forward.

If you are going to make a statement like “moving Burns to forward will create a bigger hole on the back end” there needs to be some facts to back that up. Burns can still play D on the PP, and really the choice is whether you think a guy like Tennyson should be in the lineup or a guy like Tye McGinn. Considering I think Tennyson is better than McGinn and Burns at F is better than Burns at D (arguably MUCH better), this seems to me to be a no-brainer.

But, this seems to be in the vein of the trade Patty and Jumbo arguments. It is not going to happen, Burns is DW’s “stallion” on the backend (even though he already has one in Vlasic). I guess I am willing to give Burns a longer leash like Mike, but the breakeven point for moving Burns back to D is that Burns has to be AT LEAST a clear top pair Dman. He doesn’t have to be Chara or Subban, but at least an Ekman-Larsson or Ryan Suter. Right now, his is simply a good mid-pair Dman. I can’t fathom him getting that much better, which means he is being misused. It’s too bad, another example of poor personnel usage by DW and TMac.

  6. Tom says:

Just since we’re chiming in on the Burns issue. I am squarely with Doug, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

And Ruben, of course you have the right to your opinion and I respect it, but I don’t think you can fire off that Doug needs to produce some “facts” to back up his POV, when you haven’t either. The things you said are just as anecdotal and opinion based as Doug, or mine for that matter.

Who can say really? I can’t. And I think anyone that claims the opposite is foolish.

I will say this, And I will continue to beat this drum… I think DW is a magician. I think he will find a way to trade Marleau and/or Jumbo. I don’t know how and I don’t know when, but I seriously doubt he will let them just walk off into the sunset come June 2017. Just my 2 cents.

    • Ruben says:

That’s fair, always afraid that most people don’t want to read a 10,000 word thesis in the comment thread, but I can try to bullet point:

Facts that Burns is better at F than at D
      – 13th best in NHL in 5v5 points/min at F
      – Corsi For% of 57.1(!) at F vs. 52.7% at D (despite worse zone starts as a forward and slightly easier Quality of Competition as a Dman!)
      – 6th best in NHL in 5v5 goals/min at forward despite very low Sh% of 9%

Basically, Brent Burns was Taylor Hall with a little but of unlucky puck luck on goals. He was a legit top 20 forward in the NHL.

Factual Arguments for Burns at D
      – He is an all-star at D (lolololololol so Burns and Faulk are better than Doughty and Subban this year?)
      – 3rd in points for D men this year (no doubt, he is very good offensively, though 13pts on the PP where he would still play the point))

At D, Brent Burns is… Kris Letang? Mark Streit? A Kris Letang has value and would be tough to acquire. A Taylor Hall is almost impossible to acquire.

So, I think it is obvious that Burns at F is better for the Sharks than at D, but I’m willing to see if he can turn into at least a Ryan Suter type. But that is the minimum for the move to be considered a success in my eyes.

      • evilducks says:

It happens about twice a game, usually on the power play, Brent Burns forgets for a moment he’s a d-man now and briefly morphs into a RW. It results in a crushing hit on some poor fool who didn’t see him coming or some incredible drive to the net, and I wish he could do that 18 minutes a game instead of being mostly wasted in the defensive end where he’s only average.

It’s like having a Ferrari and only using it to take your kid to school. It’s just sad.

        • Slappy_SEZ says:

‘Mr. BURNS’ is one of the highest scoring Blueliners in The NHL. And about to play in The 2014-15 All Star Game.

Every person arguing for his return to Forward . . . is more ‘STUPID’ than is worth counting.

*Comparing Burns’ PINCH plays to reg. shifts at Forward = ‘MOAR . . . STUPID’ . . .

  7. Ted says:

Long-time listener, first-time poster. I’ve been disappointed that Doug Wilson has gotten a pass in the Bay Area media for not rebuilding the team. Whether or not the fans agree with the strategy, Wilson did specifically use the term “rebuild.”

Yet Wilson has engaged in exactly the same strategy as the last several seasons: “retool.” Keep the core intact, retain the coach, but fiddle with the 3rd-4th line forwards and a try some new defensive players.

The only difference this year is, those players are being promoted from within the organization, rather than acquired from other teams. No more dealing for guys like Galliardi, Moore, Burish, Winnik, Nichols, Moen … the list goes on and on. Yes, that’s a change. But it’s not a rebuild.

Rebuild = Trading Niemi for a high draft pick. Rebuild = (Somehow) dealing Thornton for a top prospect and picks. Rebuild = Cutting Hannan, Brown, and Scott and using that salary to sign some young players. Rebuild might evne mean firing the coach.

I’m not going to feign impartiality; I think the rebuild should have happened long ago. But that is another debate. Again, you may disagree with the strategy Wilson announced, but shouldn’t a GM be held accountable for his public comments?
