The Sharks are up and down again, with wins against 3 good teams, and 3 losses against not-so-good ones. What to make of this?

Doug, I hope you were just playing devils advocate there… No I contemplated that same thing a few weeks ago; adding pieces and making a run IF the conditions are right. Last night’s lost told us again what we all (mostly) know. This team will most likely get bounced pretty quick in the PO – If they make it. I’m still hoping they wont TBH.
I have to think that DW understands this and I’m wondering if we might see DW “help them along” by deadline day. AKA: trading a few veteran players and forcing Tmac to play the youth more. with Vlassic out, I think we’re one injury on the D line from total disaster.

I respect Doug’s optimism, but to me it feels like the Sharks are about to fall off the table, especially with their injuries on D. i don’t see this team making the playoffs and agree with Tom that will be good for the franchise as is will force DW’s hand.

Meh. The Kings are banged up and missing key players. They might make the playoffs but they’re not going to make it far. Plus its an odd year for them so no miracle run to the Stanley Cup this time. I don’t mind the Sharks missing the playoffs if it means we get a high draft pick in this years draft. Hopefully that doesn’t mean T-Mac getting fired. I love Brent Burns but I think if the Sharks are going to misuse 88 on D and not play him as a forward then we should just trade him for a high draft pick in the offseason since his value is high. Brent Burns to Edmonton for their 1st and Jeff Petry? Grab Jack Eichel and let him score a million goals playing next to big Joe on the top line and hope Douchebag Brown doesn’t take his knee out.
I’m in the stand pat camp as well, I’d rather the Sharks keep looking to the future and get smashed in the playoffs this year instead of giving away some of the futures and then getting smashed in the playoffs anyway. I wish I had more of optimistic view but aside from the Canucks I don’t know if there is a match up I like maybe the ducks.
With Thornton and Marleau locked in and showing no signs of wanting to leave, I think the rebuild is 3 years too early. I would be offering up Mueller, Irwin and a 1st and 3rd for Phil Kessel and Cody Frandson and Tennyson and a 2nd for Andrej Sekeraj. Even without beating the dead horse of Burns back to forward, a top 9 of Pavs, Jumbo, Kessel, Couture, Marleau, Nieto, Hertl, Wingels and Karlsson is competitive with any other top 9 and a D corps of Vlasic, Braun, Dillon, Burns, Frandson, and Sekeraj is top 5 in the league.
Once Thornton and Marleau are gone, I am fully on board for the rebuild or refresh. It’s ok if the team misses the playoffs with a top line of Couture, Hertl, and Goldobin while building for the future. But barring catastrophic injuries this team will be too good to miss the playoffs and fully restock but too bad to really be a challenger as-is. Standing pat seems to me the lesser of the two options (as trading Jumbo and Marleau and doing a full rebuild is not really an option). I don’t think it is a bad option considering the young guys do seem to be developing (at least the forwards, the young Dmen have not been impressive), so at least that is good.
That said, DW seems to be committed to this young group. There won’t be any trades or help coming.
