The Sharks go only 2-2 on the road trip, but they beat both St. Louis and Chicago.  With all the activity elsewhere in the NHL, what might the Sharks do next?

I can’t believe Stalock is still on the team. I was really rooting for him to win the starting job last year, but he failed to do so, and DW had to spend a first-rounder to replace him with Jones. Now, Stalock clearly isn’t even a backup. How’s this for a stat: He’s given up 4+ goals in 7 consecutive starts. I wonder if that’s a (dubious) NHL record. At this point, put in Dell, put in Grosenick, put in Sharkie, put in the fan wearing the Irbe jersey, put in the Irbe Jersey itself. Heck, leave the net empty so we can at least benefit from having the extra attacker. Just no more Stalock.

Sportsclubstats.com puts the Sharks at a 97.7% chance of making the playoffs. The worry about not making the playoffs should be small. Another way to look at it: They put the Sharks as twice as likely to win the Cup (4.7%) than they are to miss the playoffs (2.3%).

On that note, I am pretty satisfied with the Martin Jones trade. I’ll trade a low 20’s 1st rounder for a league-average goalie signed to a good deal every time.

With that in mind, I agree with both the Dudes in a sense. I agree with Mike that there is no reason to go get Roman Polak (Justin Schultz, though? A right handed, 25 year old Dman who averages 30 points a season and is an RFA? I’m interested). Polak won’t change much other than cost the team assets. But I agree with Doug that Roman Polak is what DW probably thinks this team needs: a sturdy, physical stay at home defenseman. The new Scott Hannan, Brad Stuart, etc.

Agree with James, frustrating Stalock is still on the roster. Love the Sharks game right now. But the new playoff standings rules are deceptive by emphasizing division over conference. Under the old format, we would be saying the Sharks are clinging to a playoff spot as they would be in 6th overall, just 3 points ahead of the 8th seed.

Just watched the ‘Canes game … this is why the Sharks need roster depth. Both teams playing 3rd game in 4 nights, but Sharks looked tired from the drop of the puck. They’re playing key guys for too many minutes and they can’t absorb any injuries to starting players. Not a formula for success in the playoffs.

It’s not that you’re wrong, you’re correct in your assessment. It’s that we don’t have the extra picks and prospects to go and get those players. And I don’t want DW leveraging too much of our future for a run anyways.

I really don’t know what’s the best action here. And I’m struggling to guess what he does. Best case scenario is like what Doug said is he pulls a “2013” and turns one rostered player into two assests then turns one into another. I’m just not sure DW has much magic left in his genie bottle.

The back-to-back had Burns play a combined 60 min. Just asking for burnout or injury. He and Jones will be exhausted come playoff time.
