Historic episode! Great job boys. You too are part of the Sharks successful season! I disagree regarding the matchup: the Sharks can beat the Pens, but the Pens are very frightening to me. They have a top-9 rather than a top-6, plus they have a red hot goalie in the Conn Smythe convo.

    • hal says:

Indeed, but I like SJ’s defense and forward defensive play WAY more than Pit’s – and defense wins championships – right? But I can’t get too seriously into analysis now – I’m just so deliriously happy to worry about DETAILS.

Y’know that moment when you’re five years old and you wake up in your bed and realize that it’s Christmas morning? I’ve been in that state of mind ever since the end of GM6 and I hope it never ends.

This is the best thing EVER!

  2. Havoc says:

In 2008, the Penguins didn’t touch the Prince of Wales Trophy and they lost in the Final. In 2009, the team did touch it and they took home the Cup. Hence, they picked it up for “good luck.”

  3. Kent Bunn says:

    Dudes!

It’s the Stanley Cup Final. NOT FINALS.

Love the podcast, but this was a disappointing episode. No special music, or new segments for the first ever final appearance? No detailed series preview? And when the Sharks finally make the cup, you call the episode “The Tears of David Backes.” What?!? You seem to have lost your mind from all the deep playoff run stress.

    • Chip says:

There was a series preview, but I think the Dudes were just so overjoyed at the Sharks in the cup final that they hadn’t really researched the Pens much. Case in point, Doug’s bizarro comment that the Pens have a gaoltending problem. Um, what? Murray has been the best goalie in the postseason. He’s one of the top Conn Smythe candidates. The only “problem” was Sullivan’s decision to bench him for a game. Let’s hope Jones gets his game back, the Sharks continue to be road warriors, and the team brings a cup to San Jose!

  5. James says:

Am I the only one worried that the World Cup snubs of Kessel and Letang are going to give them even more motivation in this series?

    • Havoc says:

Agree with Mike about the World Cup. I am so not interested. Would much prefer the Sharks players bow out, especially Thornton who we will need to be our top line center at age 37 next year.

  6. Trevor says:

Maybe as the dudes say I have been burned too many times but the Sharks, but unlike Mike I am actually quite worried the Pens could crush the Sharks. Most pundits say the Sharks have 2 advantages: better overall D, and a stronger power play. I don’t buy it. Dillon and Polak are not great, a combined -6 in the playoffs. The Sharks have only scored 2 more ppg’s than the Pens. Meanwhile the Pens can throw out a 3rd line centered by Evgeni Malkin. That is ridiculously scary. Unlike the Kings/Preds/Blues who all had 1 superstar sniper, the Pens have Crosby, Kessel, Malkin, Hornqvist, Kunitz, plus their own offensive Dman Letang. And this kid Rust has come out of nowhere. I don’t know if Tierney’s line can handle any of the Pens 3 lines of forwards. The spotlight in this series is on Jones in net and Tierney’s line. I also agree with Purdy – first time for everything – in that the Sharks being new to the final can be distracted easily. Best way to quell this teal fan’s nerves is to do what they’ve done in every series so far: win game 1.

    • Tom says:

You may very well be right.. however everyone said the same thing about us vs the Kings.

I just believe this team is hungrier than everyone else, plain and simple.

  7. Tyler says:

Surprised there hasn’t been more discussion of Paul Martin playing the team that let him go, including his extremely classy letter to the fans/city. Much more interesting storyline than Jumbo’s beard.

    • Havoc says:

Just think if DW had actually gotten Bieska rather than Martin. We are so lucky.

  8. Rosevelt says:

The Pens looked faster than the Sharks. Might see Nieto in game 2. The Pens played 60 minutes. The Sharks played 40 because they weren’t ready to play in the first. I think they had a “just happy to be here” mentality that only went away after they were quickly down 2-0. Now the Sharks face a must-win game 2. I think the Pens are going to win this series.
