great streak by the sharks. well done, boys. but we all need to be prepared for them to lose a few soon though as the schedule gets much tougher. could drop the next 3 to the caps, canes, bolts, especially w/ the brutal travel and no backup for jones who is getting overplayed.
Babs was relieved of his duties. He’s still an employee of the Maple Leafs, he just has zero responsibilities. He will continue to draw his full salary under the terms of his contract.
If some other team wants to talk to him about an open coaching position, they have to get permission from Toronto, because he’s still under contract with them.
If some other team reaches a deal with Babs, they actually have to get Toronto to agree to it as well. And the way it works out, more or less, is that effectively Toronto pays him the remainder of his contract, at the same rate as they are contractually required to. And the new team that he is coaching for pays Toronto an agreed upon amount to have Babs coach for them.
So if the acquiring team isn’t offering to pick up enough of the value of the contract for it to be worthwhile for the Leafs, then they can just hold him to the terms till his contract runs out.
And in order to get him to switch to your team you have to convince him to come, and then convince Toronto that you’re willing to pay enough for him to come. Unless you are willing to pay more than Tor was paying him, money isn’t Babs concern. He knows how much he’ll be making till the contract runs out, and it’s just a matter of who picks up how much of the tab, and that’s between the teams to determine.
In theory, if Babs REALLY wanted to go to a particular team, he could resign his contract in Toronto, and they would be off the hook completely for the remainder of his contracted salary, and then he could go to a team of his choosing, at a rate he negotiated with the other team. But that never, ever happens.
For the time being he’s an employee of the Leafs, just with no duties at all. I believe in the past I’ve heard of former coaches getting roped into doing other stuff for the team. But that would be something that would be in his contract, where he agreed in advance that if he was no longer coaching, he would be available for some other specified duty instead.
Great episode, as always dudes. Mike should attend all road games vs the VKG. In other news, I feel like Babs will end up with the Lightning.

So Babs wasn’t fired.

Sharks 0-1 when the Dudes do not post on Monday. When they lose tomorrow, I will blame no one but Doug and Mike. Tough but fair.
Haha we showed you!
