Dudes, are we entering dark times in San Jose? I know I might be overreacting after the team lost to a Cup contender in the Avalanche, a team who dominated and skated in circles around the Sharks in the first game and the third period of the second game.
First, I must say, Donato has been a great, consistent player for us; Doug Wilson got him for a steal. Although the stat sheet may not reflect it, Dubnyk and Jones have been good. Dylan Gambrell looks like a different player after starting the season in the press box. Brent Burns seems to have step it up this year—that was one hell of a goal against Minnesota. Erik Karlsson got off to a shaky start and has improved his play since, but is he playing like a top paid defenseman in the NHL?
Our top players need to step up otherwise this team is done, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. Not after what happened last season. Meier and LaBanc are no where to be found after they got the contracts they wanted. Kane has been inconsistent in his play, but very consistent in taking penalties. Hertl started the season hot, but has cooled down since. Vlasic is no longer the reliable shut down defenseman he once was ever since Justin Braun left.
This roster is sadly done and won’t win a Cup. It’s time to blow this team up and rebuild. Problem is, Doug Wilson is going to have a tough time shipping out these contracts and stock piling on draft picks. Wilson might need to retain salary or send draft picks the other way for a team accept a trade. And it may be hard to send out the players with NMCs since California has nice weather.
We’re already in dark times, but I don’t know if the owner and the front office are willing to publicly accept it. At least we have our first round draft pick…. for now.

Louie, spot on. Well-stated!
