Alright Dudes, it’s 12/1 and I’m officially pressing the panic button. 8 of the next 10 are on the road, and the two home games are against Chicago and Dallas. Our bottom three D-men at the moment are Derek Joslin, Mike Moore and Justin Braun. The special teams look awful. Two guys that have been mentioned as trade acquisitions (Ian White and Scott Hannan) have already gone elsewhere. Please give me some reason for optimism!!
The most frustrating thing is that I have no idea why they’re playing so bad. I refuse to believe that Nabokov, Blake and Malhotra were the difference between a President’s Cup team and what we’re watching now.
Doug Wilson has delivered three bonified superstars via trade. I want to believe there’s a fourth rabbit in that hat, but I’m not optimistic.
I hear ya Patrick. Sure, Blake was good, but he was a 40 year old dman that was prone to lazy penalties. Malhotra was good for the team, but would have played on the 4th line on the Hawks, whereas he dabbled on the second line for our team. Couture has been a more than adequate replacement for him. Nitty has looked very steady.
In the end, I truly believe it has been offense that has been the problem. The Dmen have shifted from being non-entities on offense by passing to the low boards or chipping deep to now hurting the offense by launching wristers five feet off the net or into the feet of the opposing team. McGinn has been an absolute bust this year, almost totally negating Couture playing above expectations. Seto has been snakebit, nulifying the benefit of Clowe’s transition to bona fide top 6 player.
Bright spots recently, though. Ferriero should have never been sent down last year, should not have been sent down at the beginning of this year, and should not be sent down when Seto comes back. Braun has made his mistakes, but has looked great offensively.
Go Sharks
Sure Blake was 40 years old, but he was the captain. He had experience and could also put the puck on net. Also he was a player that made the opponants have to split their focus and not just block of boyle and be secure from the blueline.
maholtra wasnt the best player on the team, but he sure is better then the AHL guys that have taken his spot.
Nitty is a good replacement for nabby. Not cause he is better then nabby, but because he cost less and is about as good. The problem is that the rest of the money gotten from releasing nabby have been put into giving us .877 SV% in 9 of the games this year. And that is worse then nabby… Alot worse!
In total the defence that wasnt enough to get us the cup last year have become worse. This have led to the players losing alot and when you lose alot you get thrown off your game and everyone plays worse.
Seto for example havnt put up even close to what he should be able to.
I think that we need one ok D-man as soon as possible and one really good before the deadline, we need to get rid of the goalie that isnt as good as expected, and just eats up the cap space. Joe Thornthon needs to produce NHL top 5 points and show us that he indeed is the captain leading a team that wants to bring home the cup. If he does, the rest will follow.
