The Sharks still can’t get any consistency, losing to a bad Nashville team on the road, and barely beating Dallas at home. But they did beat Minnesota and St. Louis, so the Dudes still don’t know what to think.

I respectfully disagree re: the Brown-Hertl hit. Looks to me like Brown’s trying to get out of the way from hitting Hertl after he got rid of the puck. So I wouldn’t call it an intentional cheap shot, nor would it require some sort of old-school retribution behavior. But I completely agree that the Sharks’ game lacks physicality. With Torres injured and Burns not playing the same since he came back from injury, the Sharks need someone who physically intimidate.
Sharks as soft as marshmallow puddin’. Need some grit to win Cup Stanley. Sad to see teams smack Sharks around and captain Joe slowly skates back to the bench with not a glance or glare as a teammate picks themselves off the ice after a questionable hit. Weak.
I’m trying to imagine what would have made me happy after seeing the hit on Hertl (and Pavs and Havlat). I have to admit, other than seeing Doughty get Neuwendyk’ed and Dustin Brown with plexiglass up his nose, I’m not sure I would have been satisfied (and then I’d feel bad for wishing that on those guys).
Would seeing Brown fight Brown (had he not been ejected) been sufficient? Probably not. Would the Sharks running around “finishing their checks” made me feel better? I guess if it would have caused the Kings to cower in fear as the Sharks destroyed them 9-1. If the Sharks “finished their checks” and still lost 4-1? I’d still be pissed.
I think “retribution” sounds good in theory, but I can’t come up with a tangible example of a team successfully “responding” to a cheap shot other than… well, winning. Anything less is still going to be seen as them getting intimidated, which is a simple and often illusory story line in a league where the teams are so evenly matched. I mean, you guys couldn’t even come up with something specific that would have quenched the bloodlust, so to speak. I don’t blame you, because I can’t either…
