The Sharks have solidified their roots in San Jose with an arena deal, and the owner speaks.  No news on the coaching front, but that’s to be expected.

Doug. Awesome question about players who were developed in the Woo. This is something that I’m glad to starting to see being discussed in more places instead of buried on a discussion board. I think the telling thing about Sommer is in all his time coaching the AHL team I don’t ever recall him being a candidate to the big club or any big club for that matter. I personally am very concerned that Mirco Mueller would spend any significant time in the AHL team.

I think with the Sharks trying to sell the future it would make sense for them to try and stack that team because a losing season for the Barracuda combined with one for the Sharks could do serious damage to ticket sales.

    Good podcast as always guys.

Totally agree, especially on defense. Jason Demers is the last guy to be a no-doubt NHLer that spent any meaningful time there. I really was not impressed with Tennyson or Irwin, each of whom had poor advanced stats while not really passing the eye test (at least my untrained eye) in pretty sheltered minutes (even when they were away from Hannan).

I prefer Mueller in the NHL, but on the 3rd line playing 15 minutes every night against bottom 6 forwards. I prefer Goldobin on a 3rd line with Tierney next year. In fact, I’d rather have Goldobin play 10 minutes a night a 4th line of Ben Smith and Barclay Goodrow than play for the Barracudas next year… that is how little faith I have in the the development in the AHL.

Though you may cringe at a link to a Babwatch article, this Wings blog makes an interesting observation on another matter: the “winning rebuild” hasn’t worked in the recent NHL. The last 6 Cup winners went through “traditional rebuilds.” Meanwhile, the coaches leading those rebuilding teams are frequently fired, despite having depleted rosters. I don’t see the Sharks learning from this info. The “Winning Rebuild” Sharks won’t be Cup contenders anytime soon.
