DOH 328 – Who Else Ya Got?
March 16th, 2016, 9:37 pm
The Sharks beat the best team in the NHL, the Caps, and a division leader, the Bruins, this week. They show they are capable of being the best, but what about the loss to the Devils?

DOH Renaissance!!! Mike stats!!! Great work dudes. Go Sharks!
Lots of good points. Agree the goaltending is so improved SJ can actually steal some wins here and there. Will Reimer start a playoff game? Someone posted a few months ago that if the Sharks had even average goaltending from Stalock this year, they’d be atop the Pacific now. Probably true.
I disagree with your comparison of Hertl and Donskoi to Thornton and Marleau. They’re impressive but I would not build a team around them.
The Sharks looked great against the Caps, but keep in mind the final score was impacted by Holtby not being in net. He’s going win the Vezina and is probably the Caps most important player. I saw the Caps resting Holtby for SoCal as a bit of a slight on the Sharks. Love that we lit up the backup.
I think the Kings game later this month is going to be a great barometer for this team’s playoff chances. Glad it’s at home.
Saying Marleau is not a top six forward is foolish. Name the top six.
Hate to burst everyone’s bubble, but this team has first-round exit written all over them.
You are probably right, but if the Sharks get out of their likely first round matchup against the Ducks, I like their chances against anyone else in the west, including the Kings and Hawks.
The Sharks have two major areas to improve: the PK and also 5v5 scoring by the second and third lines. If we can get playoff goals by players like Couture, Marleau, Ward, and Donskoi, the Sharks will be tough to beat.
I Dissagree,
not to say the sharks wont get eliminated early. But they are a pretty deep team. Thornton is still one the best centers in the game. and the team is playing together. its not the wins that are impressive, its that after they lose, they usually come back and win. last year we lost in larger streaks. The team itself f just seems more together and not scared to fail. The sharks are cursed yes, but i think our biggest consern is can we play with the bigger slower heavy teams that can play defence. LA …. I think LA can win it again (unfortunatly) but anything can happen and the sharks have just as much chance as anyone else. Talent wise there fine. It’s do that have the extra that makes bounces go your way… that makes a shot past a hot goalie.
Look at what there doing… there doing all that right now… will it contine in the playoffs?
who the hell wants to play the sharks in teh first round… i wouldnt you never know what the hell your gonna get!
I BELEIVE! GO SHARKS!
The Sharks might get busted early, but if they do by the Ducks or Kings, it’s not bc they suck.
Since Jan 1st, the Ducks and the Sharks are the #1 and #2 teams in the NHL, by record, respectively.
I think all this talk about how bad the pacific division is, is nonsense. Yeah the bottom dwellers suck, but up top we match up with pretty much anyone in the league. I think the Sharks have shown that with their recent wins.
I’t because of this the Sharks CANNOT afford to leave any points on the table. Winning the division and making LA and ANA play each other in round 1 might be the difference in everything.
Anyways, who knows. I just know this… this year has been a lot more fun than last year.
Reiner’s numbers in his last 3 games: 3-0, 2 SO, .974 save %, 0.666 GAA.
Mike, maybe Kurz is a listener to the podcast. His most recent article includes the goals-for stat you brought up.
Dudes, I always get ridiculously excited when you post a new episode. Love the podcast. Especially when Doug gets a little salty. Thanks for all the insight and laughs.
