post I Blame Dan Boyle’s Baby

How dare Dan Boyle’s wife give birth to a child on a game day. What was she thinking? Hold the bun in the oven a few extra hours so Danny Boy can get on the ice and log his 22 minutes of ice time. I blame his newborn child for our loss to Jordan Tootoo tonight. Rumor has it that Todd McLellan ordered all Sharks players to get vasectomies tomorrow after the morning skate so that this type of thing would never happen again.

On a serious note – Calm down sailors! Ellis stole this game tonight from the Sharks, who dominated play even without Boyle/Cheech/Nabby. It’s a major downgrade to have Goc and Frankenstein running around out there instead of two All Stars – and we still almost pulled it off. At times Nashville looked like a Semi-Pro team…and I’m honestly not even sure how they scored four times.

No worries, friends. Sharks should have won, got some tough breaks and lost to a guy playing out of his mind. Ellis robbed us over and over again. He was first class tonight.

The thing that worries me is that we seem to run into the goalie standing on his head all too often this season. Our shot-to-goal ratio isn’t very good by anyone’s estimation, correct? Just because you’re getting rubber on net doesn’t mean there’s any inherent quality to said shots.

In any case, a frustrating loss to sit through live.

Also, I think you hit the nail on the head regarding Boyle’s baby. Aren’t there enough people in this world already? STOP REPRODUCING!!!

while I’m by no means jumping off the wagon I don’t think this was just Ellis stealing a game. How do we give up 4 goals to this team and let them claw back from 2-0 and 3-2 margins? By playing Ron Wilson hockey. Which I think showed up in stretches last night, especially in the 3rd. They lacked that shut down killer instinct tonight. I hope we bring it Thursday.

  3. My thoughts exactly. San Jose was getting sick chances all night but just wasn’t getting the breaks. Every Sharks goal was from hardwork and sustained pressure; every Predators goal was from a freak accident.

I just can’t take a Sharks loss seriously when they pepper the opposition with 57 shots and are missing Nabokov, Cheechoo, and Boyle. The team played well even without 3 of their biggest stars.

  4. Jeremy says:

What is the status of the 3 missing from action?

I dare say that the Flames are a better team than the Preds. If Bolye is back (with minimal sleep – damn babies), is that enough to get back to the win column?

  5. Mike says:

The fact that Boyle used a thinly-disguised hockey stick brand as the name of his new baby is either the pinnacle of marketing synergy, lack of imagination, devoted attention to hockey, or perhaps all three.

  6. I have heard that Cheechoo is back tomorrow night vs. Calgary, and I would imagine Boyle would be too.

No word on Nabby. I really think he might be out until the Washington game – why take him on the road trip and risk irritating the injury.

  7. Evilducks says:

I think Nabby’s return will depend on Bouchers ability to bounce back from a very poor outing on Tuesday tonight. If Boucher continues to give up easy goals I don’t think McLellan is going to want to let Nabby sit a few extra games just to be sure.

There are a few trends I’m noticing so far this year for the Sharks.

#1. Lost faceoffs in our own zone leading to quick goals. Time and time again a lost face off leads to a shot from the point that is either well screened or Boucher just freezes in OT. Which leads to problem…

#2. Blocked shots, or a lack there of. We are doing very poorly at plugging the lanes properly. We get in the way just enough to screen our own goalies but we’re not getting bodies in front of the puck.

#3. Goalies playing out of their minds. Every stinking goalie we go against is playing the game of their lives against us it seems. I scrolled through last nights games and wondered how nice it would be to hit a goalie on an off night and be up 5-0 or 6-1. Every goalie we run into shows up to play and no matter how much we try to drown them in rubber they barely let any through.

I know the last one isn’t necessarily something the team can fix, but the first two is something I hope McLellan is working on with the team.

  8. Evilducks says:

Well, I feel kind of stupid after that 6-1 massacre of Calgary. I was mildly worried going into this game that Calgary would be out for blood after we knocked them out of the playoffs. But they tucked their tails and basically let the Sharks do whatever they wanted in the Calgary zone.

Enjoy the win, I don’t think many teams are going to let our forwards stand in front of their goalies unmolested all game like the Flames did. Kipper never had a chance.

    Who’s Frankenstein?

  10. bcyde says:

    Dar, Frankenstein = Semenov.

  11. Dar says:

Thanks, he kinda isn’t doing his part very well is he?
New fan here don’t know all the codes.
Love the Sharks and the way they play.
Strong team with lots of muscle and brains.

  12. Troy says:

Thank God Dan Boyle got the chance to play for an actual NHL team this year
