Right again- maybe not exactly the score, but he accurately predicted the outcome of tonight’s game against the Flyers.  In the second period, the Sharks down 2-0, it was really hard not to get frustrated, and predict a fate like we saw last night- the Sharks out-shooting their opponent by a substantial margin, and not seeing any goals go in.  Christian Ehrhoff broke the seal, and we saw a different Sharks team after that.

Speaking of different, what the hell is up with Lucas Kaspar?  Everyone is entitled to a bad game now and again, but when it’s only your 8th career NHL game, loafing around will get a redeye ticket back to Worchester- coach.  He made lazy play after lazy play, but his last shift was the worst.  He watched Daniel Briere skate right past him, listlessly stuck out his stick to try and intercept the lead pass, and watched Briere skate in uncontested and score to make the game 4-3.  McLellan parked his ass on the bench after that.  This kid continues to fail to seize opportunities, and he may not get many more.

As grier said to me late in the third with the game tied at 4-4, “a good team will win this game”, and he was right.  The Thornton-Boyle chemistry finally paid off with a beautiful play and an overtime winner.  I have to admit, I was pretty down on the Sharks the way they played last night, and much of tonight, but now it’s time to check the emotion a bit, and maybe listen to grier a bit more.  As much as it pains me to say it.

If it makes you feel any better Mike your not alone I found last nights game a very frustrating game to watch as well. Sure the payoff at the end was good but the over all experience was still frustrating. I realize with a new system there are some kinks to work out but if your going to let the goalie see every shot they are probably going to stop it so it was nice to see them finally get it right on Cheechoo’s goal.

I’m kinda tired of hearing oh they came up against an angry team, on Wednesday the Sharks need to be the angry team. Elite teams take advantage of desperate teams mistakes not get roughed up for na period and spend the rest of the game trailing on the scoreboard which is exactly what happend the last two nights.

In the offseason we all basicially agreed that Clowe was a must sign for the sharks because he can get infront of the net and play a Homstrom style game and when he was put in that role he kind of looked lost in my view. I also unfortunatly spent alot of last night thinking when is this team going to face some adversity and over come it… I think I’m going to try and get that in check a little more.

I wasn’t able to watch the whole game but it sure seemed like Boyle had his goal coming and I’m really glad he was able to put away the game winner.

  3. We haven’t seen much of Clowe in front of the net, this role appears to have fallen to Cheech – and with great results. The important thing is this team is 5-1-0 and looking a successful road trip in the chops.

More predictions from Nostra Grier on Tuesday. I’m going to enjoy being right for as long as I can.

  4. Brian Boitano says:

I’m not concerned with Clowe, his game will come around imo because he’s too proud of a guy to let it slip. Watch for him to blow up by about game 15.

I am concerned with Nabby’s play. The last 2 games have seen his save percentage dive to .893. He isn’t coming up with as many big saves as typical. This more offensive d corps is going to give up more odd man chances and we need him to be the magic man like he was last year. No, not every night, but he’s gonna need to steal a couple games for us fo sho.

  5. GHF says:

Time for Mike’s prediction to come true. Kaspar on waivers…

And I’ve got to agree with Ian. Who cares if you get 45 shots on goal when the goalie can see 95% of them? He’ll stop them every time.

  6. Darlin says:

Kasper a little spoiled brat who doesn’t have much of a work ethic, needs a better attitude or an attitude adjustment.

Is it just me or are posts disappearing from the site?

  8. bcyde says:

I was going to wait for a post game story of the 2nd Philly game, but I wanted to see if people really thought Nabby was at fault for most of those goals. It seemed like a few were deflections off the sharks and Lupul’s first goal was an amazing shot.

Whether or not he’s in a funk (and I guess he stated he has been fighting the puck recently) it was really good to see him still remain confident and play aggressively in the shootout to bring in a win.
