The improbable has happened.  Claude Lemieux has been called up to the Sharks.  Although he’s 43 years old and hasn’t played an NHL game in five years, Lemieux will be on the Sharks club tomorrow night, and we will be there.

If Claude can still cut it in the NHL (and that’s still an ‘if’) the fourth line now has a new, much more annoying edge.  Staubitz worked and tried hard, but he’s no agitator.  He plays hard, clean, physical hockey.  Claude could do all that with some skill with the puck, and the willingness to go close to the line, or even a bit over it, to help his team.

That sound you hear is Kris Draper sh!##ing his pants.

  1. As promised, I will get “C. Lemieux” on the back of my jersey if he sticks around. Tomorrow night just got more exciting because you know he’s going to want to make a statement on day one.

  2. Mike says:

Putting Lemieux on your jersey makes only slightly more sense than putting Messier or Fleury on your jersey. I’m sensing a podcast topic.

  3. Brian Boitano says:

Do it, grier… if you come to regret it I’ll trade you my McLaren jersey, or I’m sure Mike will let you wear his Carle.

I go to school out in Boston and made it to a Worcester Sharks game last week and was pretty impressed with Lemieux. He had an assist on the opening goal and played a pretty solid game along the boards. HIs forecheck was also pretty impressive for a 43-year-old and he definitely has the stamina to log some minutes, even though he’ll be on the 4th line. This should be a fun experiment. Hopefully Mitchell will be able to make it up soon also. According to Pollak, he aggravated his leg in their last game.
