Hah, Dwayne Roloson was the first name I thought when you guys said “veteran goaltender.”
That said, I’m not sure Roloson (or any midlevel vet) would be any better than even Greiss. Except for his stats inflating time in Minnesota, he hovers between .900-.915 SV %, usually the best indicator for goalies (though by no means a perfect stat). Greiss is humming along with a .912 SV% with haphazard playing time. DW is a smart guy, and I would be he realizes the area of the team he can get the best value next year, and its at goaltender. 500K for a league average goalie (Greiss)? 825K for potentially a slightly above average one (Stalock)? Take that 2 million that is going to be spent on a vet (or 5 million on Nabby) and put it towards Manny Malhotra and/or Patty Marleau.
How to make Joe Thornton shoot more? Keep putting him on a line with Torrey Mitchell. I think he passess so much because he is good at that, and he plays with snipers like Heatley (and Cheechoo…sigh). Is that maximizing your talent? Probably not…
