Thanks Doug!!! I made the argument of PPG this year when comparing Boyes to Pavs as well as shots (which counts in our league). Anyways thanks for reading and answering my email!

  2. Evilducks says:

    Kieth was on team Lidstrom.

What about trading for Jan Hejda?

    • Mike says:

I think Hejda is more likely to be moved than Tyutin, yeah. Jan Hejda and Chris Campoli are roughly comparable, except that Hejda is much older. They’re both in the ‘better than Huskins’ category, but certainly not the #2 or #3 guy we’ve been clamoring for. Although I guess the hidden moral of this week’s podcast is to not hold your breath for that guy.

  3. evilducks says:

Matt of FTF claims he purchased better equipment for podcasting, so the cave effect may be gone this week. Also, they’re trying to figure out a place to host so they can get it on itunes… could you guys give them some suggestions? You’ve obviously found a spot.

As far as trades, I don’t know if I want to give up youth/picks this year for a rental with the way the team has performed. I have 0 confidence that we will get anywhere in the playoffs even with a change, if we even make the playoffs.

    • Mike says:

      I pay for hosting.

    • Ruben says:

Zero confidence is pretty low for the crapshoot that is the playoffs

      • Tom says:

I agree… zero confidence is not where I am at all…

I do agree though that I don’t want “just another rental” this year… DW loves to get assets without giving something up in return and I don’t see how that could happen with our current roster and cap situation. I would be open to the idea of DW pulling a more major trade for a larger name D-man, which would of course involve giving players up, but I can’t say if that’s the best idea either.

There is way too much hockey left to write these guys off in the PO’s. I remember last year having this discussion, after the conf. finals with the Dudes via the Chomptalk radio show and I believe then as I do now… that last years run was a huge boost and valuable experience for many of the players that year. And I’m talking guys like Pavelski, Clowe, Couture, Seto, Murray, Vlassic… Guys that haven’t had much success in the PO’s and we absolutely need going come PO time.

With those experiences under their belt I think those guys could end up carrying this team, even if, GOD FORBID, the HTML isn’t going. But of course everybody is gonna have to be to take a serious run at the cup…

But, Cup or not, I’m telling you right now, my gut says we’re gonna draw the Ducks in round one and absolutely stomp the shit-out-of-them…..! 🙂

    Also… per the poll question…

On an Iphone the “play in new window” link doesn’t start the P-cast. I have to click the “download” link to open the p-cast. Just FYI… not sure if you guys are asking for a specific reason.

    Mike,

Fantasy draft in this case just means that the way they are choosing the all-star teams is the same way people pick their teams in fantasy hockey, through a draft. They didn’t mean the two all-star teams would actually compete in fantasy hockey, just that in fantasy hockey, there is a draft where normal people get to pick the players onto their teams, of their own names, and in the all-star, lidstrom and staal would get to do the same thing, picking players from any teams onto their own team, of their own name, like in fantasy hockey.

  6. AdamandEvildougg says:

and in the all-star game, not all-star(period).

as for the hardest shot competition, it’s not a shot accuracy competition. you need at least one shot to register. shooting it off the post, if the gun doesn’t register it, is the same as shooting it in the net and having the gun not register it, because it’s not an accuracy competition. the point of the competition is to determine who can shoot it harder. if the hershey guy took two shots, and neither went in the net so neither registered on the gun, then obviously he would have to go again to get a speed. obviously, between braun and the hershey guy, braun shot it more accurately, so between the two of them, braun won the accuracy competition. but if the hershey guy can shoot it harder, then he deserves to win the hardest shot competition. if in the NHL all-star game both weber and chara hit the posts on all their shots, does that mean someone else with a softer shot deserves to be called the guy with the hardest shot, who won the hardest shot competition? i dont think so.

re: the wellwood goal, you are overtouting it. it wasn’t a spectacular goal at all. people bat them out of the air all the time, from much further away where they have to hit it much harder. wellwood gently tapped it out of the air a second time because he was inches away from the goal. if you look at the replay, you can see that the first time he batted the pass out of the air, that was more difficult, more swinging and hoping you hit it, and he did, but the 2nd one, you could tell it was pretty routine for him. i know the sharks dont have those high skill players who score the fancy goals EVER ala an Ovechkin or Toews or Nash or pretty much all the star players in the league except for the sharks ones, but come on, you can’t lower your standards like that. In fact, Boyle is the one guy on the sharks who does have the skill to do the, if not spectacular, at least the routine highlight reel goal, and he did last season, two of them I believe, where he deked around the defender and scored with his quick hands and agility. Those are good, very solid, fancy, highlight reel goals. Wellwood routinely tapping it out of the air from a foot away? Not so much.

    • evilducks says:

I believe it is called the hardest “Shot” competition. Shot, meaning the puck is on net. Well, that and the rules specifically state that you get two chances, and that a miss counts against that total. What good is a hard slap shot that misses the net?

      • Patrick says:

But EVERY contestant who missed the net twice was awarded a third shot, so that’s obviously just part of the contest. Wait, what? Other guys missed with both shots, but only the hometown guy from Hershey got a third attempt? Hmmm, that’s a head-scratcher.

  7. AdamandEvildougg says:

    Re: Pitkanen,

Would be great to have, right? If only someone suggested the Sharks sign him when he was available, for cheap… (Erik Cole cheap) hmmmm… Oh wait someone did–me, when most NHL fans had either forgotten about him or never knew how good he was to begin with. But that’s NHL fans for you. Most of them are pretty stupid. But Doug Wilson, he’s the GM. He’s supposed to not only know everything I do, but much, much more. But Doug Wilson didn’t pounce when he had the chance, we haven’t won squat in the meantime, and now, when we’re once again trying to win the Cup for the first time, he isn’t available for a good price.

But what about Pronger? A few years ago he wasn’t really available for anything but multiple 1st round picks, prospects, and a top 6 forward, but now I hear he’s available for Milan Michalek and Steve Bernier. Pretty damn good price don’t you think? I think we might even be able to beat out Neidermayer and the Ducks for the Cup if we traded Michalek and Bernier for 32 year old Pronger. That’s a trade that could completely alter the face of our franchise for years to come. If we don’t make the move, who knows, we could go all the way to 2011 without winning the Cup. But I think if we make it, and we have the best GM ever, so I’m sure he will make the right decision when it comes to the most pivotal potential move (most pivotal decision) in our franchise history, if we make it, we could win multiple Cups! You guys are always talking about how great Doug Wilson is, so I’m sure if there was just one decision that would determine whether we won Cups or not, he’d choose correctly!

  8. AdamandEvildougg says:

    Re: Nabby

You guys don’t know what you’re talking about. Nabby married into a rich family! He’s not about the money at all. He wasn’t just looking for the biggest paycheckk. I think if he got a 4 year offer for 3.5 mil per in the NHL, he would have taken that over whatever he got in the KHL, 5 mil for 5 years, or whatever it was. My point is, I think he just got nothing of any value in the nHL, with any security. I don’t think he got multi-year offers with any worth in the NHL. If he had gotten anything remotely close to what the KHL offered him at a decent NHL team, I think he would have taken it. But he wanted a multi-year deal and some security, and he only got that in the KHL. If he’s really all about the money, why did he ditch russia? He obviously chose his family over the money in the end, and if he was dying for any money he could get, he would have joined the Isles. Instead of signing for 1-2 mil with another team, he signed for near minimum with Detroit to try and win the Cup. Essentially, of the three things a player could choose, money, family/security for the family, and winning, the one you said he chose was really the only one he didn’t. To start with he chose security, stability, and really his only decent offer from anymore, and in the end he gave up 25 million~ for winning and for his family. Get it right!

  9. AdamandEvildougg says:

In hindsight, I don’t think putting the following two sentences directly together helped my argument. “Nabby married into a rich family! He’s not about the money at all.”

What I meant was ^^, if he was about the money before, he’s not now. He doesn’t have to worry about money now because he married into a rich family. You guys always over-consider Doug Wilson’s side and are positive about what he’s doing when you shouldn’t be, so at least be objective with Nabby, and consider every angle evenly. You’re overly positive with Doug Wilson, overly tough on Nabby. Just get it right! Objective, factual, logical. Come on.

    • Patrick says:

Wow, all the strawman arguments, false assertions and twisted logic in your rants, and THAT was the point you wanted to go back and re-work?
