DOH 185 – F the Super Bowl
February 5th, 2012, 7:20 pm
It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and the Dudes would rather talk about the Sharks than watch football. They break down the encouraging wins against Columbus and Dallas, but lament the discouraging loss against Phoenix. But both agree that Chicago next Friday is a big test

I don’t post here very much, but I wanted to say thank you for bringing out a new podcast on Super Bowl Sunday so I can get some Hockey/Sharks talk on a Boring Sunday Night. With all the Super Bowl talk, I’m glad there is someone out in the world that have the same level of care for the Super Bowl/priorities that I have.
Thanks for the quality show every week guys.
Here here. Appreciate the Podcasts guys!
David Pollack speculating the Sharks might acquire a top six forward…
AND Drew Remenda on the Marek vs. Wysnyski podcast saying he’d like to see the Sharks acquire Ray Whitney – also a top six forward….
Thoughts?
I Like Ray Whitney, but at what price?
Well, everyone knows how I feel. I’d have no problem with DW trading Demers and a guy like Ferriero/Wingels for Whitney and a 5th. Being able to have a guy like Whitney or Havlat on the 3rd line would match us up very well with the cream of the crop. We would basically have last years’ scoring depth with this years’ defense. I know the dudes don’t like rentals, but I’m not sure the trades for Wallin, Huskins, etc. worked out too well even though we got to keep them for a bit after we traded for them midseason. Certainly, best case scenario is a waiver pickup like Wellwood, which cost nothing, but I don’t see anything like that on the horizon.
As an aside, Nabokov has a .925 SV% and 2.21 GAA… would have to imagine a team like Ottawa or (GASP!) Chicago would love that kind of stability in net…
The thought of Nabokov going to any Western contender frightens me deeply… until I think about that five hole!

Dudes,
I’m posting this mid third period, but let’s just say I am not feeling too good about trading away our depth at D. I know you have to give up talent to get talent, but last year one of the main reasons we lost to Vancouver was our lack of depth on D. Yes, you could say we lost bc we didn’t have Paul gaustad, but playing both wallin and huskins was not a winning formula.
Are Colin white and Jim VanderMeer an upgrade? I am not convinced that White is better than wallin. Are you? . Colin white is pretty damned miserable. The likelihood of a long playoff run where we don’t have to play our seventh d-man a decent amount seems slim. Say what you will about Braun having surpassed demers (which I agree with) that does not mean that he wouldnt be quite valuable against Vancouver or Chicago.
Oh, and if we win the cup with Paul Gaustad, you will get a big fat apology.
