Tbh, they had a hard time getting up for games against bad teams last year, too. 🙁

  2. Russ says:

One possible reason the Sharks may be leaning on older players lately? They’ve spent a lot of time on the road and have not had much time to practice. Older guys probably can perform better under those circumstances.

Once they’re playing more regularly at home and getting some practices in, if they’re still trotting out the old guys and not giving the younger guys a chance, then it will really be time to gripe about what happened to the “tomorrow team” we expected.

  3. Tom says:

I still think the best thing possible for this org is to rattle off a ten+ game losing streak. It would most likely force DW and crew to make major changes.

Making the POs just to get bounced in the first round is an utter waste of time. It doesnt bring us closer to actually contending for a cup or restocking the cubboards with picks and prosoects.

I hate to admit it, but ik kinda rootingfor just that.

This organization just seems too lost to know it and too stubborn to ask for directions.

  4. Peter says:

Positive points to dwell on ; they have played a huge number of games on the road and even though they were against teams that are not doing well in the league , San Jose has always had a problem with those teams. Take our record against Buffalo , now 8-0 ! I can’t disagree about Demers . I get nervous every time he starts to move the puck. The last point Is the team is coming home , they’ll get to practice and hopefully move forward.

  5. Tyler says:

I can see the potential benefit of the Demers trade. But I also wonder, don’t the Sharks have much bigger problems, such as, oh, I don’t know, a GM unwilling to rebuild an aging roster that can’t win in the playoffs? Ok, so one of our top 4 D got a tad younger. The top forwards in ice time this year are still Pavelski, Marleau, Couture, and Thornton. Average age: 31. Daring youth movement!

    • Cyoor says:

I would not trade pavs and coture.
Thornthon and Marleau got no trade contracts, so I dont know how much there is to do about that atm.

    • Peter says:

I feel the Dudes are a little OCD about this whole youth movement thing. I’m not sure as to what the Sharks could get or benefit from trading Pavs or Couture and as far as moving the ‘Big’ two , it’s complicated. Some work has been done and there should be more as the season progresses but let’s not get hung-up on the youth movement thing. You want a serious change , start at the top.

      • Tom says:

There would no benefit in trading Logan unless its for a better player.

An argument could be made to trade Pavs under the right scenario. If they were truly rebuilding, Pavs might be slightly too old to be around when the Sharks would theoretically start competing again. His trade value is now and probably never will be higher. We get could get a HUGE return for him.

And i think youre mising the point about getting “hung up” on the “youth movement”. The main point is that this organization, from the top up, as you say, seems directionless and downright stubborn about changing much. That’s more than concerning.

  6. Roy says:

I’m sorry to say I agree with Tom that the Sharks “tanking” is actually the best thing that could happen to this team because it forces Wilson’s hand. While I’m drinking …

    Crazy-will-never-happen-but-should scenario:

    – Fire McClellan, replace with Tony Granato
    – Trade Thornton, Marleau, and Pavs for prospects / picks
    – Promote Vlasic to captain, give Couture an A
    – If Stalock is healthy by Feb, deal Niemi at the deadline for a pick
    – Sharks miss the playoffs but come back young and strong in 2015-16

    Realistic scenario:

    – Joe Thornton agrees to trade near the deadline
    – Sharks miss the playoffs
    – McClellan fired in off-season
    – Niemi not resigned (and we get nothing for him)
    – Sharks miss playoffs again in 2016 and DW gets fired in off-season
