Mike Brown wont be playing often.

  2. Tony says:

I always enjoy your banter dudes, but you are on the wrong side of Kane’s rape allegations. You dudes clearly seems more interested in the hockey impact rather than the interests of justice or the victim. Shameful.

    • James says:

I agree with the Dudes. Cutting Kane would have set a bad precedent. If charges are filed, that is a different situation. Even then, innocent until proven guilty.

    • Mike says:

We speak about the hockey impact, because that’s what we can speak (semi) intelligently about. I’m not following the case in detail. Of course if the evidence is there Kane should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

For the first time in years (ever?), the Sharks have a wealth of forward depth and even have a chance to field a 4th line with talent. If Raffi stays healthy and returns to form, their forward depth could possibly be a wealth of riches. Whom will be forced to the press box? To the ‘Cuda?

Although I’m cautiously excited about this season, the Sharks have a lot of key players who are dancing on the precipice of age-induced decline (Jumbo, Patty, Martin, Raffi, Ward, Pavelski). With this in mind, to what extent do you feel DW has done good work in structuring contracts for the next 2 and 3 years?

    Always enjoy the show, fellas.

  4. Taylor says:

Great podcast, especially the sharp analysis of the roster possibilities. I agree that Donskoi has the most to gain and is the most intriguing new Shark. Torres would add so much to the 4th line. Nieto wouldn’t crack my opening night lineup. Love the 3rd line you discussed, though Hertl needs to up his forechecking and defensive skills. Possible line combos based on what we’ve seen so far. Thanks, Dudes.

    Donskoi Thornton (A) Pavelski (C)
    Marleau Couture Ward
    Hertl Tierney Wingels
    Torres Smith Karlsson

Vlasic Braun / Martin (A) Burns / Dillon DeMelo / xtra: Tennyson

    • Jared says:

Scoring-wise, still a one-line team. Couture is wasted on a line with Marleau at this point in Patty’s career.

      • Max says:

I used to be the biggest Marleau fan and always defended him when people ganged up on him. But he just doesn’t have it anymore. After last year, I thought he would come in this year with a chip on his shoulder and tear it up. But he was invisible last night in a preseason game against a weak Canucks roster. We are going to learn a lot about Coach DeBoer from his cuts. Wilson wants Hertl at center, but Tierney is much better at the position. Nieto should be released asap.

        • Taylor says:

Couture didn’t make an impression either, so it’s not just Marleau at fault. An interesting test would be to see Donskoi and Marleau switch lines. Would playing with Jumbo on the top line get Patty going? Would Couture have chemistry with Donskoi?

  5. Rosevelt says:

Reading the public comments by PDB, one can already sense he’s the opposite of the TMac demeanor, which was grumpy and direct. PDB is sympathetic to the players and very positive. Doug, I do think the Sharks listen to the podcast – as soon as you mentioned Hertl was not playing center, voila! He’s the third line center. Mike, can you explain why Timo Meier went to Halifax and not the Barracuda? Thanks Dudes!

    • Mike says:

All NHL teams have a limit of the number of contracts they can carry on the books, which I believe is 50. If a player is playing for a junior team, he does not count against that limit. If he plays for the Barracuda, he does.

      • Ian says:

I would also like to add that because of the CHL/NHL Transfer agreement a player can’t play for an AHL team while he is still Jr. Eligible for their CHL team (OHL/WHL/QMJHL). Meier still had a year of CHL eligibility in Halifax so it was NHL or bust for him. Much like last year when Mueller was stuck in the press box because he could not go to Worcester, also a trip back to JR is one way until the JR. team is done playing so they didn’t send him back to Everett.

    Thank you!
