  1. Max says:

In the Anaheim game thread on the official Sharks site people were lamenting the loss of Torres right now. Someone proposed the lines below when he returns. I know it sounds crazy to move Ward as he’s been scoring, but man the 3rd line here would be fun to watch. The argument was just what Doug said in this episode: make the third line a shutdown line.

    Donskoi – Thornton – Pavelski
    Marleau – Couture – Karlsson
    Torres – Hertl – Ward
    Haley – Tierney – Wingels

    • Max says:

Update following the Sabres game … Sharks now 5-0 when Hertl is the 3rd line center and Tierney the 4th. But DW really needs to go out and get some 3rd line wingers.

  2. James says:

Shuffling lines, Marleau trade rumors, we’ve seen all this again and again. DW did very well to bring in Jones and shore up the D with Martin. But the guy still can’t ice a 3rd and 4th line.

  3. Rosevelt says:

I think the Sharks had a good off-season. It’s been bad luck that 2 forwards the team were really counting on are having bad seasons: Nieto and Wingels. Nieto isn’t an NHL player, Wingels has regressed. If Wilson could work a little magic and bring in some bottom-6 players who can play right now, they will be in good shape when Couture and Torres get back. I completely agree with Max that Karlsson on the 3rd line makes no sense! He should be in the top-6 or traded. Him as trade bait for a third-liner makes a lot of sense.

    • Ruben says:

Nieto is a fantastic bottom 6 player… if you are willing to have that type of player as your identity in the bottom 6. I mean, isn’t he just our new Torrey Mitchell? Maybe a little better possession-wise with a small amount of offensive upside? Having someone like that play 10 minutes 5v5 on your 4th line and play loads of PK time is pretty valuable. But, he is not a top 6 player without significant offensive improvement.

Tommy Wingels… so disappointed. Tonight (against the Sabres), he turned a 3v1 in OT into an absolute nothing, not even a missed pass or failed deke, just skated right into the defenseman sliding into him. I feel like he is just another Steve Bernier, a decent 4th liner but though I guess better in the locker room. I thought he would turn into a smarter Ryane Clowe, doesn’t look like it…
