Happy New Year Dudes! Love Doug’s to Hertl for Drouin idea, especially since he’s no longer playing center. That trade would do 2 things: 1) Put a legitimate possible future star on the top line with Pavs and Jumbo. 2) Give the Sharks a legitimate top-6 forward of the future in the post-Marleau days, if they ever come. These are exactly the kind of deals the Sharks should be making.

  2. Paul says:

I’m with you guys, the John Scott deal pisses me off. I logged in everyday to vote for him, he wins and now they won’t let him play! I’m boycotting the all star game lol but seriously.

  3. Paul says:

Also I believe the Sharks thought their best years are behind them and fully intended on rebuilding but the nm contracts and lack of fan support (ticket sales) changed that. If San Jose was still a good ol blue collar city filled with loyal fans, the rebuild would be in full effect. The recent signings and the jones trade were business deals, not hockey deals. I understand and accept that even we finish last in the league.

  4. Rosevelt says:

Regarding the goaltending stats for Jones, I don’t think the Sharks D is misrepresenting his skill level by lowering his stats. Look at Niemi. He is currently playing with a great Stars roster and his numbers are almost identical to his most recent 2 seasons with the Sharks. Also look at Luongo, who had stellar numbers for years on absolutely terrible Panthers teams, or Reimer, who currently has amazing numbers despite the league’s weakest roster. I think, for example, if we magically landed Jonathan Quick, his stats would be just as good with the Sharks as with the Kings though LA has the far better team. Of course, the one major stat that would be different is wins/losses. But the NHL isn’t MLB and doesn’t put as much emphasis wins as it does on save % and GAA.

Goaltending is a big concern for me. Jones is hot/cold. He seems to respond well to consistent starts, but I could also see him being exhausted before the playoffs start. Strongly feel Stalock should be replaced. Only 3 wins and a .894 save %. In Stalock’s 3 wins, the Sharks scored at least 4 goals per game. Not NHL quality numbers.

  5. Teddy says:

Great episode, as always. Dudes, what ever happened to the idea of a live away game broadcast/commentary?

  6. Max says:

So tired of people apologizing for Burns on D. Tonight he lets his man Vinny go unguarded right in front of the net, leading to the tying goal with 12 seconds left. The other night vs the Sens Burns gambled on the PP which led to the game-tying goal late in that one as well. Those are 2 points we left on the table, plus the win streak would have still been going. I don’t want him on the ice when the game is in the balance.

    • Tom says:

As much as I want to disagree with you I think DeBoer agrees. I noticed very clearly that Burns wasn’t out there on the 3on3 with Pavs and Jumbo as usual.

He just needs to be better. But he’s far too valuable offensively…. It’s a tough call for the coaches.

    • James says:

I agree 100%. I also wonder if it’s fatigue. He plays so many minutes and his meltdowns seem to often happen in the 3rd period.

    • Matty says:

Someone needs to assemble a highlight reel of all the goals Burns has allowed due to sliding on the ice too early and taking himself out of the play. Be sure to include the Ducks’ shorty tonight.

  7. Havoc says:

Question for the Duuuudes: If a playoff-bound team offered their 2016 first-rounder (i.e. pick 17 or later) for Marleau, would you do it?

  8. Matty says:

Hey dudes, love the podcast. Keep ’em comin.’ The Sharks are certainly rolling non-playoff teams right now. Very exciting to see them respond to the Avs tonight. As high as I am, I feel less so looking ahead to the Feb schedule: a brutal 14 games in 28 days, with only 4 home games all month! This is how injuries occur (gulp) and also a backup goaltender needs to win a few games. (gulp gulp)

In Jan, the Sharks played 7-8 games against teams that probably won’t make the postseason (depending on where the Sens and Avs end up). The Feb teams are much better. I’d say that number shrinks to only 3-4 (Flames, Canes, Yotes, Canucks, etc.) Let’s hope the Sharks road success continues!

The good news is March is much more favorable to the Sharks as they play 11 of 14 at the tank. Let’s hope their home points streak continues! Go Sharks!!!

p.s. What are the odds Scott skates with Pavs and Burns at the All-Star game?

  9. Sharksfan says:

I wouldnt trade anyone, (besides Marleau) who cant be traded. I think the team looks pretty damn good when eveyone is healthy. Depth on D is a need. and of course you need someplayers for the future. but I like what i see. Keep it rolling!
    GO SHARKS!

  10. Sharksfan says:

Have you heard…Raffi Torres “feels like he is 20 again” in a article online….. i wouldnt hold my breath but we can hope.

  11. Tom says:

    GIVE US PODCAST…. [grunts]

    • Havoc says:

The Dudes have been traded to Montreal, where they were immediately sent down. They are now an IceCaps podcast.

  12. David says:

It should be a good time to pick up a goalie to back up Jones now ? Habs leafs will be letting goalies go and Peter budai (spelling I know) is doing great things in the AHL just have to clear some cap space. Will sending Raffi down give DW the flexibility to back up Jones ?
