The Sharks did make a splash at the trade deadline, surprising many, when acquiring Gustav Nyquist from Detroit.  The Dudes cover that and all the other great action in the NHL.

great podcast doug and mike. i always listen to each episode right away. have to agree with your commenters though – i don’t see the sharks getting to the conference finals with their goaltending. would have been smarter to get someone at the deadline. look out for my preds. like the caps last year, the preds have been under the radar but are built for the playoffs and rinne wants to redeem himself.

Love the podcast. Odd analysis of the Flames possible psychological impact and the possibility of the Sharks catching them. The Flames have won 6 in a row. They’re cruising. The Sharks’ second best player has a chronic injury, they have the worst goaltending of western playoff teams, and they’ve lost 3 of 5 including being outscored 8-1 in the last 2 games against quality teams. Huh?

BTW, I agree with everything Mike said in this episode especially about Nyquist. Regarding Jones, the point about if your GAA is 3, good to be on a team scoring 4 goals per game. Yes, count me among those surprised / disappointed that the Sharks didn’t add a goalie.

The Kurz article on Pavs made me very nervous. I was in the Dudes’ camp previously, assuming he’d be back and it was only a question terms. Is it possible Nyquist, who is 5 years younger than Pavs and also a RW, is plan B if Captain America walks for more $ than the Sharks can offer?

    • James says:

One other note – disappointed to see that some people here proved me wrong about Kane and injuries. Was noted by other users that he is often injured. We saw that last year and we’re seeing it this year big time. As great as the Sharks are playing, I wonder if a less than 100% Karlsson and Kane, plus whoever Simek’s replacement is, are good enough to go all the way.
