Doug and Mike were as accurate as ever when they said the Sharks would lose the series quickly, and Martin Jones should be pulled, since the Sharks have fought back to force a game 7 at home.

    I rarely comment…
    But 8 minutes?!?
    Really!?!
I had the scented candles ready, built a roaring fire, told my secretary to hold my calls for the next 90 minutes, and wore my finest robe. Just when i was starting to enjoy it, the pod was over! Its the playoffs boys! We need a full 60 minute effort from you two!
Keep on casting pods. We need more!

Hope the Dudes record before round 2, but at the least would love to hear your take in the comments here on “The Call.” Here’s mine.

    1. To hear VGK talk, you’d think the refs awarded 4 goals, not a major. Kill off the penalty, or at least, don’t give up 4 goals on it, and you win the series. And oh yeah, did the refs also score 5-on-5 in OT? Play hockey. Own what happened, don’t blame the refs.

    2. This will lead to video replay on major penalties. I can understand why the refs awarded a major, as they were without the benefit of video. With video review, I think the correct call should have been 2 minors, 1 to Eakin and 1 to Stasny. Actually, with video, it might have been even worse than it was for the VKG. Could have easily been a minor to a Eakin plus a major to Stasny. Meaning, you lose Stasny for the game and also the first 2 min are a 5-on-3.

    3. The VGK have also benefited from calls. In game 2, there was the bad call on Couture for goalie interference that took a score away from the Sharks and led to the game-winner in the pp, a 2-goal swing that changed the series. And earlier in game 7, I agreed with Kurz that Eakin’s goal should have been wiped out for a stick above the crossbar.

More thoughts … The Sharks are so banged up, and their goaltending so inconsistent, it’s hard to imagine them beating a younger, faster, rested Avs team. This victory might be short-lived.

The Blues’ season is reminding me of the Pens the year Sullivan took over late in the year. They’re my pick to come out of the West.

Marleau and the Leafs out early again. Leafs should buy out his last year. Patty could return to SJ for 1 year and then we win it all, followed by Jumbo and Patty retiring, The End.

  6. Tyler says:

With video, it’s Stasny who gets the brunt of the call. Pavs would have been fine if Stasny hadn’t hit him while he was off balance. Only change should have been a major for #26 vs #21. Marchessault, what’s “embarrassing” is that your team gave up 4 goals on a single penalty. But the game was then tied up and ultimately really won in OT. No pp, no refs, just even strength and a defensive breakdown by the Knights.

    • Havoc says:

In a perfect world, it would have been 2 minors, one to Eakin and one to Stastny. But this is how the league works. The NHL can’t call every penalty, so they give a more severe penalty or suspension if a player gets hurt. Especially a star like Pavs. That’s why the ref told the VGK “It looks pretty bad.” Meaning, due to the injury, we have to give a major. I would like to see this approach to penalties change, but that’s been the standard for years. If a pair of Sharks cross checked Marchessault to the ice, knocked him out, and he bled, the Sharks would get a major. If one of them was Raffi Torres, he’d be suspended. Again, not the best system, but the way it’s been for years.

Personally I was glad it went to OT because each time had a chance to win it after the refs were involved on the Eakin goal and the major penalty. Marchessault should own up to the fact they lost in OT when each time had a fair shot.

  8. Matty says:

used to sort of admire the knights. but no more. the way they and their coach have responded is pathetic.
the sharks didn’t whine after vlasic got injured for 2 games or thornton was suspended for a weak call or
after game 2 or in the 2nd period game 7. in all those cases they kept playing. vegas’ inexperience finally showed in the playoffs. they haven’t faced much adversity as a franchise. they lost a 3-1 series lead. they imploded after one of their players committed a penalty and gave up 4 goals in 4 minutes. own up to it.

writers, the sharks incredible top unit on the power play with meier replacing pavs in the 3rd should be the lead story or the vegas collapse. not a call. and all these controversial call stories glaze over the fact that there was a whole overtime that decided the game not a call. give me a break. the better team won. quit whining. this is hockey. wish we could play vegas again so we could keep beating them.

  9. Nazir says:

The game six double overtime worked in our favor. The five minute power play came late in the next game. Vegas was too tired to kill it off.
