    +1 Great content/”insight”.
+1 Thanks for the commitment to weekly ‘casts (obviously you might miss a week here or there but more consistency is super helpful and something to look forward to on Mondays!)

    Thanks Dudes!

My favorite episode in a long time. Mike in full curb your enthusiasm mode, with advanced stats peppered in. Doug pumped and a little salty. The dudes rule. Keep ‘em comin.

I can’t believe my comment was read by the dudes! Thank you! I appreciate Doug’s perspective. Here’s the thing – you guys are going off of potential, I’m going off of last year. True, Jones MIGHT have a rebound year and sudden,y jump up 20 save percentage points. Karlsson MIGHT finally get healthy. Lebanc MIGHT find consistency and a D game. A top 6 RW MIGHT fall out of the sky. But the recent re data suggests otherwise.

Last year Jones was not starting goalie quality. Karlsson was injured and still isn’t in games. Lebanc was a streaky scorer and defensive liability. Those are 3 core players you seem to think will do a 180. I hope so but I think there’s a higher chance Pavs scores 30+ goals which he does every year. And I think you forget how vital Nyquist was to the team. Incredibly solid two way player. You’re also talking long term which I get. But IMHO I think with Pavs, a Nyquist – like solid second line RW, and a decent goalie, we’d be the favorite in the west right now. I would have pushed the chips in because the West is open for the taking – no Lightning, Caps, or Leafs. But I hope I’m wrong. Go Sharks!

Bottom line is the Sharks swapped out most of their right wings in order to have a healthy Erik Karlsson long term. I think your point this is long term is key. In the short term it doesn’t look good. Swapping Lebanc for Pavs (38 goals), BrodInski or Gambrell for Nyquist (22 goals) and Yurtaykin for Lebanc on the 3rd line is a net loss of about 30-35 goals this year. Hopefully the young guys can kick in some goals, Karlsson can score 10 or so, and the goaltending improves. The Sharks won’t be the high flying offense they were last year, but they might be able to win games 2-1, 3-2. And then in years 2 or 3 of the Pavs deal, when his production might decline a little, letting him go will look better. DW does have a good record of knowing when to cut bait with players, even Sharks icons. BTW, in the last 8 seasons, Pavs has missed only 8 regular season games. The injuries have come in the playoffs.

Really appreciate the commitment to the weekly podcasts! Missed you guys over the summer but really glad hockey’s about to start. Please discuss potentials for a scoring RW next week? Go Sharks!

Actually, 12 is about where I’d put this team in power rankings. They lost their top scorer – which has a ripple effect in that lesser players now draw superior defensive opponents – but also because SJ did not fix its goalie issues. At the very least, this summer I expected a new backup. I suspect DW will be willing to make some big-time moves if the team is not in a playoff spot by new year’s. Also, Doug’s bold prediction didn’t even make the roster. But this is still my favorite podcast – actually the only podcast I listen to – and I’d like more, more, more. Go Sharks!
