You know things are bad when the Sharks have to *convince* a goalie with an .890 save % to join your roster …

Mike on the scenario that ended up going down: ” … then I would be decidedly less excited” and “that would be a terrible idea.” Agree one-thousand percent.

Strategy: What’s better than a terrible goalie on a long contract? Add another terrible goalie on a *short* contract! “Ta-da!”

I knew there’d be some activity on here today! The goalie deal tells us that Wilson was unable to unload Jones, at least not without giving up more than he wanted. So Wilson went to Plan B: get someone off the scrap heap. His team decided Dubnyk was the best option. I can see the logic (though it doesn’t excite me): “Devin, anywhere else you go, you’ll be a #2. Come to SJ. You can compete for the #1 job and can prove to the league you can still play, then earn a solid NHL contract next season.” But it’s a tough sell to the SJ fan base. I would have rather had the Sharks bring in a new coach, unload Jones at whatever cost, deal away a big contract such as Vlasic or Burns, and invest heavily in draft picks and young talent. Best case scenario is Dubnyk posts a .913 like 2 seasons ago, Jones has a respectable .910 in limited backup action, and the Sharks get rid of both goaltenders next offseason.
