The Sharks couldn’t do a major shakeup this offseason, but there are changes afoot. Martin Jones has been bought out, 2 veteran players added, a possible All-Star talent drafted, and an uncertain future for Evander Kane.

thank you dudes. what a great episode.

the buyout window created by the hill arbitration ends aug 28 because that’s 48 hours after the last scheduled arbitration. the investigation is supposed to end before training camp opens july 10. so yes, the sharks will be able to wait and see about the investigation or buy him out even if innocent.

but i agree with doug, if he’s innocent – and those posts (now deleted) were so erratic they are hard to take too seriously – there’s a chance he’s still on the team.

    • James says:

Ah, my error! Training camp starts September 22. So that changes things. Maybe the Sharks won’t know the results of the investigation before their buyout window closes …

I have been checking the Dudes website 3 time a day since the Kane story broke to hear their take. Good podcast as always. If the Sharks buy Kane out, then he’s later found to have violated league rules, can the Sharks terminate the contract they’ve bought out?

    • Mike says:

That’s a really good question. I imagine the Sharks will do all they can to avoid that situation. My personal opinion is the Sharks should do whatever it takes to get out from under that contract, and buying it out is only done when all other avenues have been completely explored. Even waiving and keeping him home for a year is better than buying him out prematurely.

Boy we sure could use a young center like Josh Norris.
