The Sharks have made some good moves in this offseason with the draft and free agency, but this team will not be contending for a playoff spot anytime soon. Also, Norris winner Erik Karlsson will likely be leaving in a depressing trade.

So great to have a new episode from the dudes. Missed you.

Pashelka tweeted (x’d?) that SJ was the highest bidder for Tarasenko at $6 mil.

  2. Nazir says:

Great episode as always dudes. One disagreement. You seem resigned to an EK65 trade for very little. But the Sharks are under no obligation to trade him. I would not trade him unless it’s a great deal. The Burns deal didn’t work out well for SJ. Don’t make the same mistake twice.

I don’t like this modern era concept from the NBA where players get the protection of a contract but can get out of it if they choose. Keep EK65 on the roster unless a team pays what he’s worth. If he really, really wants to play elsewhere, he and SJ can always mutually end the contract. Don’t give him away to some team and pay 39% of of his contract for nothing. I’d rather see Ek65 selling tickets, mentoring young players, and helping SJ be a little competitive.

    • James says:

All good points except we’re talking about a player who is often injured. As Mike mentioned he could get injured and then he’s stuck here and we’re stuck with him. I’d trade him asap. His value will never be higher.

    • Mike says:

For sure this is a longer discussion, but players are giving up something in exchange for the no-trade or no-move restriction. If teams don’t want to be beholden to those clauses, they are not required to sign players that demand them.

I’m personally fine with players creating leverage so they aren’t shipped out to Buffalo at the drop of a hat. It’s certainly not beyond anyone’s imagination that a player’s or team’s fortunes may change, and the contract is really no longer the best deal for either side. This is insurance for EK65 so he isn’t moved to a place he doesn’t want to go to, and he properly negotiated for that right. If the Sharks don’t want to be in that bind, they should offer more money in exchange for movement rights.

The fact is, the remainder of EK65’s contract if in SJ will be good for fan engagement and little else. I understand trading that marginal value for potential future impact from a young player. Sunk cost and all that.

  3. Emily Hall says:

Adin Hill was traded to VGK for a 2024 4th round draft pick, not 2nd round.

The other thing that bugs me is that the Sharks & majority of fan base (including you guys) decided that Evander Kane, who was loyal to the Sharks, was run out of town over false allegations, exaggerated story line & assumptions that he was bad guy. By getting rid of EK9, Sharks lost toughness & scoring. If fans & Sharks had just waited, given him the benefit of a doubt (instead of the “where there’s smoke, there’s fire”) this team wouldn’t be the dumpster fire it is now.

I can tell you right now, the accusation that he was horrible teammate, didn’t bear out on the Oilers, he’s turned out to be a valuable asset and one can argue Kane was the missing toughness that the Oilers needed w/ an added bonus of being a 30 goal scorer. Kane is doing things in the EDM community that he was doing here but no one wanted to give him credit for. It is unfortunate that Sharks fans fell for a media narrative that was so wrong, and now we’re getting burned by that very stupidity.

Here’s the truth: Evander Kane has a better chance in winning the cup in the next couple of seasons than the Sharks do in the next 6 seasons.

I’m ok with the EK65 trade. Only 13% retained plus a first? Sounds great. People forget the Sharks are already paying Jones and Burns to not play, plus a Vlasic buyout may come soon. All that combined with Karlson’s injury history and I’m fine with this. The East is wide open, but I wouldn’t put the aging Pens in the “contender” cateogory. And when EK65 gets hurt, Grier will look smart.

  5. Jim G. says:

lol, ok with one of the worst returns for a superstar of all time. Pittsburgh radio station host said if a caller of his had tried to tell him this trade idea, he would have hung on him and called him delusional. They can’t even get an unprotected 1st and Granlund was going to be bought out. The Dman is 33 and signed for 2 more years and the Pens wanted him just gone. They aren’t favorites in Pittsburgh but they are at least relevant something the Sharks won’t be for a decade. Grier will never look smart because this was a stupid return.
