Mike and Doug bask in the continues success of the Sharks this week, trying to decide exactly what make the wins over the Ducks and Sabres so satisfying.  The Dudes propose a new DOH event (see poll), and take a bunch of interesting listener emails.

    Dudes,

thanks for fielding my question. I think there might be more to the Kubina trade possibilities than just a two for one deal though… But I digress.

I am confused however because for the last few weeks you both have been saying that the blue line needed a major upgrade and that DW was making a mistake if he didn’t do so. But now after a good stretch of games that isn’t the case? I don’t understand the flip. I still agree that a major D upgrade would be most beneficial if not needed.

    Oh and by the way Doug… I don’t have a high pitched voice… but nice try… 🙂

      Tom,

I still believe the blue line is the best candidate for upgrade. That being said, I don’t think DW should pull the trigger on any D-man that’s better than our worst defensemen. We have talked on past shows about guys we would want, like Gilroy, Giordano, Niskanen, and Phaneuf. I’d rather not have a rickety older guy (like Souray), or a guy that doesn’t has as much offensive upside as I’d like with a big cap hit AND is a UFA (like Kubina). Of course filtering all this through the prism (or prison, haha) of the salary cap situation makes most of these deals unlikely if not impossible.

And next time I’ll do my Barry White impression when we impersonate you.

P.S. Now I see that the “Change Nothing” title of this podcast could be misleading. I mean in terms of play on the ice, not necessarily in terms of the roster.

So I see your logic I just disagree.

Also I’m not thinking that Kubina is an offensive defenseman. I mean that for such a big shut down guy (6-4″ 240lbs, bigger than Murray) he scores more often. He is 6th on Atl in pts. I think he is on pace for 50pts. Not huge but good for such a big guy.

Also I think Clowe Huskins for Kubina is an overpayment. I’d want something back in the firm of a 2nd or 3rd rnd pick. Given Clowe’s salary isn’t fitting third line minutes I’d consider it.

If Kibina left unsigned in the offseason that would be horrible, but I totally agree that he won’t get 5m in the off season. My thought was he would ne more likely to sign for 3m or less in July if he had played here.

Bur I asked your opinions and you gave it. I don’t like the idea though of trading for a big heavy contract like phaneuf when Marleau, Nabby, Seto, Pavs and Malhotra all need to be paid next year.

  3. Jerry says:

You know why Vlasic looks like, “I feel bad for shooting?” Cuz he’s got a weak-ass shot. The Sharks are not a Stanley Cup contender when they can’t get beat Chicago. Package Vlasic, Clowe and Seto for Phaneuf and Bourque. Get ‘er done, Doug Wilson!
