Two dudes blogging and podcasting about the San Jose Sharks, straight from sunny California.

post DOH 119 – Three Swedish Points

Filed under: podcast — Written by Mike

The Sharks get three out of four points against Columbus in Sweden, and there’s already several Sharks related moves to talk about.  The Dudes tackle those, some listener emails, and still find time to weigh in on some NHL news as well.

Count me in among the divided. I’ll be listening to the Lincecum/Halladay matchup on the radio as I head down to the Tank on Saturday. I’m really considering taking Tuesday afternoon off to watch that day game, too.

Also, this is random, but every time I see that one Target commercial with the mom making pancakes, I think of Lemieux Watch. Seriously.

  2. Cyoor says:

3 min into the podcast I finally heard: “Dude lets talk sharks hockey..” Thats about 9% waisted of the podcast on baseball?

  3. evilducks says:

    James Wisniewski – NYI
    Joni Pitkanen – CAR
    Ed Jovanoski – PHX
    Brian McCabe – Florida
    Jan Hejda – CBJ
    Fedor Tyutin – CBJ
    Craig Rivet – BUF
    Thomas Kaberle – TOR
    Brent Burns – MIN
    Chris Phillips – OTT

    Roman Hamrlik – MON

    • Doug says:

Great list EvilDucks – you’ll certainly see some of these names pop up on mine this weekend.

      • evilducks says:

1 to 2 years left on their deals, if their teams are struggling come deadline time (or potentially sooner) they could be looking to trade for the future instead of losing them to UFA season for nothing.

    • Eric says:

      Ryan Suter?

      • evilducks says:

While I wouldn’t mind having him, he’s still got 2 years left on his deal and I don’t see them letting him go if they can help it.

    • Chris, from Boston says:

I really love that Craig Rivet made your list, but I’m not sure him or Jovanoski are really the kind of guys we need.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have Rivet back over Huskins or Wallin, but I don’t think he would be higher then Vlasic or Demers on the depth chart.

Those guys do bring a lot of intangibles though.

  4. Tom says:

EJ hradek on NHL live this morning with Joe Pavelski talking about… what??? SF Giants…!

    BYE BYE BABY!!! loved it!

Hamburgers bit was pretty solid also!

    Well done dudes…

  5. Lor says:

Seems like Wilson’s style to trade for a D-man before the deadline hits – well before would be nice.

Sorry dudes it’s not Danish, Hungarian, or Japanese. Lor is the type of name you get when you are conceived in California in the summer of ’69. The last name is Bavarian, which is kinda between Denmark and Hungary though.

    • Mike says:

Hmm, guessing cultural heritage isn’t our strong suit. Did your parents have a six-string bought at the five and dime?

  6. Ruben says:

Chris Phillips and Joni Pitkanen are two guys I think are undervalued and could be had for a fair price. However, I really like our forward depth and 3-line approach, so I’d hate to break that up. Tough decisions will have to be made to improve the blue line unless something like Wallin or Huskins get hurt for the year.

And not everyone hates the baseball talk, Dudes. As long as the podcast remains Shark’s-centric, I am more than happy to listen to your off-tangent views on other topics.

    • Andy C says:

As an out of countryer who supports the Giants, its not easy to follow them (watching pitch by pitch updates on a mobile phone is not the way the game was meant to be followed), so count me in as another one who is happy to pick up a bit of that feel-good vibe through the podcast! Besides, you did cover it i a sorta Shark related way (kinda) as you were discussing how it affects your Shark-watching… As far as off-tangent views are concerned, just lay off discussing musicals!

I hear a lot of people saying how certain D-men are under-rated. Hower, I always wonder what this means. Under-rated by whom? Fans, Media or GMs? After all, DW needs to make the trade with the opposing GM, who will be in the best position to judge their abilities…

I’m too lazy to look at CapGeek at the moment and work through the numbers, but without having made that trade yet, how far under the cap does this make the Sharks? And if this is pro-rated up to the deadline (& then after), what sort of additional salary could we afford to pay from the deadline onwards?
