I have to correct you two about Bryan Berard. After his debilitating eye injury in 2000 he had 7 eye operations and was able to play again in the 2002-03 season w/ the Rangers. He then went on to play w/ Boston and Chicago in 2003-04 and went on to win the Masterson trophy in 2004. In 2005-06 he played for the Blue Jackets. Maybe his career wasn’t as long as it could have been, but his career was not ended by his eye injury.
Don’t know if you were corrected during the podcast, cuz I stopped it to write this comment. Will listen to the rest of it now…
btw, you guys are the best!

Thanks for the correction Emily. I had forgotton how productive Berard was after his injury. I knew he did play a bit, but I think I was only remembering the short stint with the Islanders at the end.

Just listened to the latest podcast–it was great, (as usual).

Here’s my $0.02 – YES, Mike should do the Sharks Fantasy Camp next year—But instead of him coughing up the $1900, I think WE (meaning all of us faithful podcast listeners) should all ‘chip in’ for his participation. I mean, after all the great podcasts he’s given us for the last couple years, it’s the very least we can do…. Besides, then we could all go cheer for the “Dude”…. (Let me be the first to write my check!)

Thanks Mike. Hey check out my videos related to the recent suspensions:

I did this one last week on Steve Ott and it was posted on Puck Daddy!

Here’s one that I just posted on youtube this morning:. It’s a new History Will Be Made 2011 parody called “Punch”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxPOJCL6PwI

Looking forward to your next podcast.

Doug, I agree with you 100% about Heatley hitting Ott. I also remember a couple years ago the Stars taking liberties with the Sharks on the last day of the regular season too, and always felt that led to part of the collapse against them that year in the PO’s. Good call.

      Hey dudes,

Finally got around to checking out the podcast for this week and thought I’d give you the run down of the Memorial Cup.

You guys basically had it right.

Each league takes turns hosting the tournament and the host team is determined by a bidding process of the top 6 teams in the host league in advance that way they can ensure that one team isn’t going to get killed. The remaining teams are made up of the Champions of each league if the host team should win their league the runner up also makes their way to the Memorial Cup.

The Memorial Cup itself is a round robin tournament with the top seeded team after the round robin getting a bye to the finals and then if necessary a tie breaking game to determine the 2nd and 3rd seeds. The 2nd and 3rd seeds then face off for a chance to compete against the top seed for the Memorial Cup in the final.
