No top 6 makeover. Bummer. 2 weeks with no Dudes. Bummer.

Keep up the great work guys. Always entertaining and informative.

Seems that Doan is of the table for real now..

I have heard that they offered him 13,5M for 3 years.
I personally think that that is a bit low for doan. I think that he will get 20M over 4 years.

It’s what he’s worth, not what he’ll get.

      • Patrick says:

Unless they have something better planned for the remaining cap space, it’s kind of silly to debate whether he’s worth 4.5M or 5.0M. I’d rather have him at 5 mil than have cap room and nothing to show for it.

A four year term is a bit scary, though. Especially with how old the top players are getting. If I had a young team I think I’d take a flier on Doan for 4 years, but with Thornton, Marleau, Boyle and Havlat? No thanks…

        • Ruben says:

Yeah, the cap space isn’t important now, but it is going to be really important in 3 years when Couture comes looking for a Skinner-type deal and Joe Pavelski is on his 4th straight 30 goal season.

Whatevs, this will be the year the Sharks trade for Jarome Iginla, anyways.

          • Patrick says:

That’s also the year that $20.6M worth of contracts expire in the form of Marleau, Thornton and Boyle.

I’m not saying the cap space is unimportant, just that the difference (in cap hit) between what Doan is worth and what he’ll get is unimportant. The 4-year term is the deal breaker for me.

I was about to talk some smack and tell you dudes to update the site, but the headline still works just fine; Doan is “still” out there, and probably will be for another year if these negotiations continue the way they are going.
    Speaking of the lockout…
I feel like the lockout would really hurt Jumbo more than most. This season could be his last shot at the cup with the Sharks. No player on the roster plays with more Heart then Joe in my opinion and It would be a real shame to miss out on the stellar effort he would likely put forth if the season doesn’t get cancelled.
    Let Joe Play!!
    Go Sharks!!
Who the F is Sergei Samsonov???
