The Sharks did sign Matt Nieto, but they still need another goalie.  Where will Nieto slot, and what’s available on the market in net?

We are loyal! Keep ’em coming boys. Go Sharks! Here’s a question: Will Marleau finish the season with the Sharks?

Only a handful of guys have spent about 100+ games with the Sharks’s AHL team and turned into anything useful. Jason Demers, Christian Ehrhoff, and Jamie McGinn are the most recent. If you go way back, Jonathan Cheechoo, Doug Murray, and Ryane Clowe qualify.

Should Dylan Demelo eventually lock down a spot in the NHL, he would be arguably the best current example, as he has spent about 150 games in the AHL before debuting and looks like he might be a decent bottom pair option. Tommy Wingels spent 98 games down there, but bounced back and forth between the AHL and NHL right from his first year in the organization, so who knows how much credit should go to Sommer vs the NHL coaching staff.

Other than bit guys like John McCarthy, Freddie Hamilton, Frazer McLaren, Derek Joslin, etc, that is pretty much it for the history of Sharks AHL player development by Sommer.

So, Sommer had a decent development period back in the early 2000’s, but has done virtually nothing for the organization since then.

If you narrow the requirement to 40-50 AHL games (and go back to the Kentucky Thoroughblades days), you could add Scott Hannan and Dan Boyle to the list…

    hi dudes,
all ready for the world cup of hockey ? are you going to do a podcast on the worlds and the sharks players there ?

  4. Cyoor says:

I remember when the dudes posted long and interesting podcasts during the summer and said: “We have nothing to talk about”, but still talked for almost an hour and even got it to be about 75% hockey related.
    Examples that could be discussed:
    – Do your own draft for las vegas including only players that got no contract next year.
    – Talk about world cup predictions
    – Will Hertl be injured on/off forever?
    – The Sharks tight cap hit and what might be done during the season.
    – Barracudas
    – Best sharks memories
    – Other hockey leagues like the KHL, SHL, Czech Extraliga and the finnish SM-Liga. (Maybe pick a team in each league or something and have them as your teams)

I could go on forever.. The point is that we miss you guys and want to hear you talk about whatever. 🙂
