    Dudes!
Just thought I’d drop by to say you dudes were on point in this ep. Love the positivity while still keeping a critical eye towards the team we all love. Points on Karlsson, Goodrow, LaBanc all on point. Definitely my #1 hockey/sharks pod.

  2. Havoc says:

Yes, More podcasts – we love ’em.

I don’t think the Sharks have played a good team yet.” – Doug. Exactly. They’ve been sub .500 against non-playoff teams. Vlasic and Karlsson is not working out – both of them look awful. In Nov, the schedule gets much more difficult. No bueno.

  3. James says:

great episode as always dudes. just watched the preds game. i live in nashville this year and only wish i could have attended, but it was still great to watch. 3 thoughts. 1) i actually prefer burns and karlsson together on the pp because teams can’t crowd up against burns to take away his shot. if they do, they leave karlsson open and he can get a clear shot. so having both out there tends to leave burns more shooting space, as in the game winner tonight. 2) not sure if it was planned or just a partial change, but the 4th goal by pavs was produced by a line of kane-couture-pavs. when jumbo comes back, wouldn’t that be an amazing top line? 3) saros did not have a good game. that dillon goal was pretty soft but we’ll take it! still waiting for jones to find his game.

  4. Teddy says:

What’s crazy is Jumbo is injured, Jones & Karlsson have been average to downright bad and still the Sharks are tied for first in the division. If 1 or 2 of those things turns around like Karlsson and Jones start playing well then look out! The team will be very dangerous. They have so much scoring it’s crazy and the pp is clicking. But their 5-on-5 D is pretty awful! Gotta admit, so far I am not impressed with Erik the Great except on the pp. But as the Dudes would say it’s only a small sample size. Let’s resign Pavs and Go Sharks!!!

I agree about Pavs. On another matter, back to the Dudes’ draft,On another matter, has anyone noticed Tierney and DeMelo are playing very well for the Sens. Still would have made the trade for Karlsson despte his slow start. It’s just nowhere as lopsided of a trade as was perceived. Karlsson is starting to find his game. Good sign for the Sharks.

  5. Teddy says:

This team won’t go on a deep playoff run with Jones in net. He is so inconsistent. If he’s still letting in a softy per game in January, the Sharks have make a deal for a veteran backup to challenge him for the sopt in the playoffs.

Honest question: With Karlsson struggling so much, is he helping the Sharks by reducing his possible contract cost? I mean, it won’t be a steal of a salary, but probably not the Tavares type money we were anticipating if you’ve got one of the lowest +/- in the league.

  6. Lisa says:

PDB is in a tough spot. What do you do when 2 of your best players – Jumbo and Karlsson – are among your worst players? I do not expect either player on the roster next year. Jumbo will retire and Karlsson will be dealt before the deadline. And as crazy as it sounds, the Sharks will be a better team for it.

I would rather have my centers as Pavs, Couture, Tiery, Suomela. That team could go to the Final. It won’t happen this year, but the team is headed in the right direction.

    Love the podcast!!! Go Sharks!!!

    • Matty says:

I agree completely about Karlsson, which is a shock. The dudes kind of avoided the topic in this episode, which was odd. He’s yet to score, has a -10 worst on the team by far, and looks lost and turnover prone. The Sharks have 3 major needs: a top-6 center, a bottom-6 center, and an all-star goalie. (Suomela was obviously supposed to be the bottom-6 center, but he seems to be in the PDB doghouse.) If Karlsson doesn’t improve, he could be flipped as a rental at the deadline for a top-6 center and a high pick. That would not be the end of the world. Or he could round into form and look like a world beater and prove that last year’s off year was an outlier. Either scenario is good for us, so I’m not concerned, just surprised. I think the Sharks give Jones at least the rest of this season to prove he can play at a high level and he has shown signs he’s coming back into form.

Doug & Mike, Wanted to write to say I’ve been listening to the podcast constantly since ’08. I used to live in the Bay Area and your language and sense of humor reminds me of that area, which I sometimes miss. You always bring a smile to my face and lift me up, as well as give me something great to listen to on the rare occasions I got to the gym! Hope you keep it up! Thanks for 10+ years.

Cracks me up to read the Merc praising PDB for finally doing what I and many others called for a month ago – putting the PAvs-Kane-Donskoi line that was so good last year, keep the Couture line together (it’s obviously been the best line and was bewildering to see PDB break it up briefly) and then put Thornton as the 3rd line center playing about 15 min a night instead 18-19. What took so long?

  9. James says:

After coaching Germany to a medal, Marco Sturm just landed a role as an Assistant Coach for the Kings.

  10. Matty says:

Solid game from SJ against the Flames tonight. Jones getting better, top line suddenly clicking, Hertl back, Burns playing his best, all good signs.

I have 3 major concerns that keep me from thinking the Sharks will go on a deep playoff run. First, Jones is wildly inconsistent. Second, the Sharks need Karlsson to be a stud, and unfortunately he’s been a dud. And third, the Sharks are a Thornton knee problem away from having no legit bottom-6 centers at all.

If EK doesn’t make a huge improvement by new year’s, the Sharks must deal him to the East for some combination of a center, veteran goalie to backup/challenge Jones, and/or picks. I’m not blaming Wilson – I would have made that trade too. But I *really* hope the Sharks do not sign him, especially for 8 years! Instead, lock up Pavs!

The Sharks are a few moves away, but Erik the Not-So-Great-Right-Now-But-Maybe-He’ll-Be-Better-For-Your-Team could be a hell of a trade chip.
