Writing after game 2. Time to break up the third line?

So glad I was wrong on the last series prediction. In that spirit, I will make another pessimistic forecast. Blues in 7 (but they ultimately lose to a rested Bruins team that finishes off the Canes in 5).

  2. Havoc says:

so tired of people bitching about missed calls benefiting the sharks. either you’re ok with the game being interrupted by replay, or you live with what we’ve got. it tends to all even out, like the perron missed puck over the glass and then him scoring instead of being in the box. hey blues fans, why not get on schwartz for missing the empty netter that should have sealed the game? or o’reilly, who lost a 50-50 battle in front of his goalie to couture on the extra attacker goal? or the line that left erik karlsson completely uncovered in ot!?! (on the rush as meier skates it in, watch parayko gesture for someone to erik karlsson, then no one does, lol). but seriously, the sharks need to play a better 60-min game, not just win the first period and hope for the best. p.s. c’mon carolina, win us at least 1 friggin’ game.

    • James says:

How about the score keepers trolling the officials by giving Timo an assist, lol.

Funny how fixated people are on this rather than the Blues missing the empty net, giving up the late goal, or *not covering two-time Norris winner EK65* in OT. Give credit to Karlsson for being agressive even in a road OT game and the coaches for giving him and Burns a permanent green light. It’s definitely risky, but that time it paid off.

And for the record, going back to the Avs’ too many men penalty, that was not a blown call critics. Don’t lump it in with the Vegas major or the St. Louis hand pass. Even Landeskog said it was a mental error on him and he needed to get off the ice. So let’s all dial down the conspiracy talk.

damn. its doesnt matter who comes out of the west. boston is too damn good and they got that guy rask. boston in 5 in the finals. no way in hell with jones in net do the sharks have a chance. even if they beat the blues.

    • tom says:

      I agree 100% actually.

I predicted the Sharks losing to the Bruins in the final long before the POs started actually. I thought BOS was the sneaky pick in the east and they are also a really bad matchup with SJ. They do everything SJ does just a little bit better and a few more things too.

If we get by STL, and that is still a BIG IF, I doubt we make it pass game 5 with BOS.

    • James says:

I think if the Sharks were rested and 100% healthy they would beat the Bruins. But they’re nowhere near healthy. Kane, Karlsson, Pavelski, Simek, all injured. So when people say the Sharks have been lucky I say, maybe with a couple of calls at key moments, but certainly not with injuries. It’s so frustrating. Especially Karlsson. We’ve seen what the team can do when he’s healthy. He’s not and what a disappointment.

When Karlsson walks, and Jumbo retires, the Sharks will have a ton of cap space. Sign an elite goalie and add a Dman, bring Simek back, and this team will be a contender (as it seems to be every year).

People after Sharks v. Vegas: “We need more replay in the game!”

Same people after Sharks v. Avs: “Replay is slowing down the game!”

Same people after Sharvs v. STL G3: “We need more replay in the game!”

Love the Sharks, fan since the first season at the Arena, want a cup so bad for the South Bay and Joe. But this team is just too inconsistent and banged up. Plus now every fifty-fifty call will go against them due to the controversies. I would be surprised if they win another game. Only way that happens is if one of the stars – Karlsson, Burns, Pavelski, Hertl – takes their game to another level. Couture has been doing this but now he’s a marked man every time he’s on the ice. He can’t do it all himself.

Bruins would be my finals pick too but they’re not unbeatable. Offensively pretty much a 1 line team. Contain the top line [not easy] and it’s a series. Especially if they lose game 1 at home. Doubt creeps in.

    • Benny says:

I’m watching game 5 and the shots in the second are 15-1 Blues. Hate being right all the time 🙂

      Bruins in 6.
      Pavs and Jumbo return.
      Karlsson gone.

      I think we’re done here.

  6. Teddy says:

Dudes, you used to record mid series. Miss your take.

Long time Sharks fans dread the early afternoon start time for the team. Franchise historically loses these games. Pivotal game 5 at … noon?!?! Wtf NHL. I fear the worst.

    • Teddy says:

Ok I never believed it could be THAT bad. OMG. Today they looked like a broken team.

If I’m PDB I put the lines in a blender for Game 6 and sit injured Karlsson for Heed. Maybe we can start a For Erik hashtag. SJ hasn’t been the same without the rallying For Pavs thing.

  7. James says:

Well sorry to say I picked this one correctly. So disappointing that we only got glimpses of Karlsson’s A game considering all we gave up for him. But I would still make that trade every day. On the bright side, I disagree with those saying “the window is closed.” Here’s my armchair recommendation.

    OUT
    Karlsson (walks as a UFA)
Jones (.869 save % in the WCF, .898% in the playoffs, ouch)
    Haley (please no more)

    RE-SIGNED
    Pavs (3-year deal)
    Jumbo (1 year deal)

    ADDITIONS
Duchene and/or Lehner / Bobrovsky (Why not?)

Just think of these centers: Couture, Duchene, Hertl, Jumbo

    • James says:

One last thought. So much was hade was made by journalists, coaches, and fans that the Sharks were “given” games by officiating. IMHO that really hurt the Sharks in this series because officials let a lot go against SJ. When a Sharks player gets punched in the face and there’s no call, when your captain takes a targeted hit to the head and there’s no penalty, your opponent keeps doing it. This series reminded a little of the old Pronger Oilers teams. Those teams couldn’t beat us, so they beat us up. If both teams are 100% healthy, I still think SJ is better. But we were injured going in (and that’s our fault for not winning the division and getting Vegas in round 1), then got beat us much more than we deserved in the series, and that was all she wrote.

Dudes cheer us up!!!! At least now I will have more team on my hands. Could not be less interested in a Boston-St. Louis series. Snooooorrrreeee.
