The Sharks seem to have lost the season. Can they make the case that the team should not be dismantled?

I had the worst day traveling yesterday From SLO to DFW. 4 departure delays because of fog with a side of 12 hours and 4 car companies to get a rental. But hey Sharks win. Super big smile on my face, now I get to listen to my Dudes after a win. Double smiles, What travel challenges.a heavy and booming “Go Sharks” from Paris, Tx. Right on Dudes!

  2. James says:

By my math, the Sharks need to go 23-8 for the playoffs. That’s a .741 winning percentage, while their current winning percentage is .470.

Glad the Dudes brought up the Sharks poor drafting in recent years. Just look at how poor they have done in round 1 over the last 10 years. Including this year, 3 of the last 5 years, they haven’t even had a round 1 pick.

    2011 – none
    2012 – Tomas Hertl
    2013 – Mirco Mueller
    2014 – Nikolay Goldobin
    2015 – Timo Meier
    2016 – none
    2017 – Joshua Norris
    2018 – Ryan Merkeley
    2019 – none
    2020 – none

Can the Sharks just release Jones? Seems like pretty much anyone would be a better option at backup now. He has lost 9 of his last 10 starts. In other words, if Dell had started all those games, statistically, the Sharks would probably be at least within a longshot chance of the postseason. If he clears waivers, send him down. No one would ever pick him up. If they did, we’re off the hook. But surely, this cannot continue. It’s madness.

  4. Maty says:

The Sharks need a 1st rounder this year. I wonder if they could package someone with Dillon for a first, like Melker.

  5. Tom says:

I still think the way out with Jones might come this off season at the expansion draft. Though it might take an additional side deal to get it done. I think we all agree that Doug Wilson specialty is fleecing other GMs in trades and/or getting them to take players off our hands.

If I had to bet, that seems likely.

    • TRex says:

The expansion draft is in 2021. The Sharks will have to buy Jones out this year. No way can they play him next year.

I know the Sharks publicly supported DW, but what if the Sens’ pick from SJ becomes number 1 overall? They have to fire him, right? I mean, come on.

Incidentally, with the Sens’ own first-rounder likely to be high, with our pick, the Sens may pick twice in the top 5.

The injuries to Couture and Hertl show that these players’ history of injuries has not gone away.

  6. Brian says:

It’s true the Sharks have been really disappointing this year, especially Meier, Burns, Lebanc, and Karlsson.

But does everyone realize, if they had even league average goaltending, they’d be in the playoff race. Jones has lost us at least 4 games this year by himself. At least. That’s 8 points.

The Sharks should keep Dell, add a veteran backup, use their cap space to get some bottom 6 forwards, and come back next year ready to go. Go Sharks!!
