Regarding your question at the end of this ep. about how we wrap up this season, my hope and belief is that everyone will be so relieved and happy to have come through this and get back to some normalcy, that it won’t really matter. We should be thrilled and joyful for whatever it is. So I say, the weirder and more out of the box the better. This seems like the time to experiment. And if this offends some purists (and because it’s hockey, I’m sure it will), maybe whoever wins whatever it is this year aren’t “2019-20 Stanley Cup Champions,” but some other lesser title. Since unless we resume the regular season where we left off and play a full four rounds best of seven playoff series, it maybe won’t be a “legit Stanley Cup Champ” to some and that’s fine by me. Just give the winners another title, keep it on the shorter side, try something new, and have some fun celebrating hockey and life with a renewed perspective and appreciation for how great so many of our “normal” lives are.

Some great signings to talk about, but I have a comment and I wonder what you guys think…

Dan Rusanowsky – I’ve never had anything but respect for this guy – he is SO GOOD. But his recent broadcasts from home kinda give me the creeps. Is this guy really surrounded by piles of crap as indicated in these videos? He’s still great, but now I can’t help but think that he’s a bit of a weirdo too.

Hahaha! This is very true. I’m not creeped out by it, but I have had to resist tweeting back at Dan several times lately asking him why he lives in some sort of Victorian Museum. It’s pretty funny and I think actually very on-brand for Rusy. And I do agree, Dan is the absolute best. Before hockey and the Sharks were on TV all the time, he was the way I followed all Sharks games for many seasons in the 90s. Still love listening to Sharks games on the radio because of him.

My vote for how to end the season: every single team gets to enter a March Madness style playoff. Single elimination all the way to whoever is the last team standing. They get rewarded with a unique cup, but not the Stanley Cup. I would watch every game because they’d all be game 7’s.

Yes, the Dan R videos are bizarre. He looks like he’s on the set for Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. It’s kind of bizarre how the current TV wave of interviews invites us all into each others’ private residences.

That would be fun and is a real possibility if the outbreak is so serious that the NHL fears another interruption in play.

But if they feel it’s safe, the NHL will want max playoff games due to the dire need they will have for cash. In that case, we would likely see something like 2 weeks of “regular season” to get back in game shape followed by a full playoff is more likely.

My personal preference would be a full NHL tournament with all teams in and seeding based on regular season standing, but with a 2 out of 3 format. In a 1-and-done format, the travel is just too brutal.

    Where are the Duuuuudeees ….

And wow current events are so bad I don’t think we’ll be seeing hockey any time soon.
